Lions’ Annual Penny Hunt

The annual Penny Hunt, which the Lions have been hosting since 1960, is scheduled for Saturday, March 23rd, at 1 pm, in Wood Memorial Park. The rain date is the following Saturday, March 30th. This fun family event is great for all kids. Kids up to age 9 can participate in the penny hunt portion of the day and the older ones can take their chances with the egg toss.

Raymond D. Snyder Jr. – Obituary

Petersburgh – Raymond D. Snyder Jr., 95, passed away on Thursday, March 7th, 2024, at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, NY. He resided in Petersburgh and was the husband of the late Joyce (Mason) Snyder.

Ray was born on January 19th, 1929, in Troy, NY, son of Raymond D. and Mary (Pickett) Snyder. He graduated from Berlin Central School in 1947 and was employed as a Custodian and then maintenance of Buildings and Grounds at the Berlin Central School. St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival

The Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival is here! Jack Fitzsimmons will be the Grand Marshal of the 2024 Hoosick Falls St. Patrick's Parade. Jack is the proprietor of Barbecue Recreation on Route 22. The Barbecue and the Fitzsimmons family are community supporters giving back to the school and many other youth organizations, and grand supporters of the Hoosick Falls St. Patrick's Parade.

Parade Grand Marshal Announced

Irish eyes are smiling on Jack Fitzsimmons, as he was announced as the Grand Marshal of the 2024 Hoosick Falls St. Patrick's Parade. Jack is the proprietor of Barbecue Recreation on Route 22. Jack's parents, Walt and Linda Fitzsimmons, moved here in 1970 after purchasing Barbecue Recreation. Walt and Linda each worked for AMF Bowling Products before moving to Hoosick Falls. They raised 3 children: Lori, Jack, and Patricia in Hoosick Falls and all three attended Hoosick Falls Central School. Jack, now the owner, has worked at the Barbecue since he was very young, and continues to do so 7 days a week. Ancestors on his father's and mother's side are traced back to the old sod of Ireland. St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival

The Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival is on Saturday, March 16th, less than three weeks away. Over 33 years ago, local Irishmen Mike Conway and TJ Carmody wanted to find a way to keep the Irish culture and history alive in the Hoosick area, and decided that a parade was the ticket.

Enter and join the fun of this year’s parade. Enter a float, antique cars, tractors, marchers, or bands. Showcase your business or civic organization. All fire, rescue, and law enforcement are welcome.

Arrest Made Following Narcotics Investigation

On February 16th, Kandie L. Stowell, a 39-year-old Hoosick Falls resident, was arrested following a three-month narcotics investigation. The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigations Unit, in conjunction with the Hoosick Falls Police Department (HFPD), conducted a search warrant in the Village of Hoosick Falls, where Kandie L. Stowell was found to be in possession of 4.3 ounces of cocaine and fentanyl, $2,400 in US currency, an explosive device, as well as drug paraphernalia, scales, and packaging.

Merritt J. Wilson – Obituary

Bennington - Merritt Jay Wilson, 91, passed away on Thursday, February 1st, 2024, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. He resided at Brookdale with his wife Eleanor (Caton) Wilson, who he married in 1976. He is remembered as a man of great kindness, quiet ways, gentleness, and a beautiful sense of humor.

Merritt was born on January 25th, 1933, in Troy, NY, son of the late Harold E. and Mabel (Calhoun) Wilson. He attended the two-room school in Center Brunswick, NY, then Knickerbocker Junior High in Lansingburgh, and graduated from Troy High School. He served in the Army from

Fire Dept. Formal Winter Ball

The North Hoosick and Hoosick Falls Fire Departments will hold their 2024 formal winter ball on Saturday, February 24th, from 6 to 10 pm, at the Hoosick Falls Armory, 80 Church Street.

The Hoosick Falls St Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival will take place on Saturday, March 16th. Over 33 years ago, local Irishmen Mike Conway and TJ Carmody wanted to find a way to keep the Irish culture and history alive in the Hoosick area, and decided that a parade was the ticket.

The parade will begin at 1 pm from Wood Park, down Main St, John St, Church St, Willard St, and back down Main. This year’s parade will feature The Taconic Pipe Band, The Yankee Doodle Band, The Capital Brass Band, The Cambridge Band, and many floats and marchers.
