Dr. Martinez was born December 4th, 1971 to proud parents Dr. Philip and Gloria Martinez. Gloria once referred to Marcus as her change of life baby. And oh, how he changed her life. It all started shortly after his arrival home from the Putnam Memorial Hospital. An allergy to pine trees (discovered after he had been home for two weeks) necessitated a change in tradition from a family outing when the family would cut down a tree to purchasing an artificial tree. Six years later, he was at it again having life-saving surgery in Boston by the renowned pediatric surgeon Dr. Hardy Hendren. Yes, life was never dull with Marcus in the house. Ellen P. Myers – Obituary

Petersburgh – Ellen Pauline (Hewson) Myers, 77, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 4th, 2023 at her home, surrounded by family and friends as she entered peacefully into eternal life.

Ellen was born in Bennington, VT on April 5th, 1946 to her late parents, Francis Joseph Hewson and Marjorie Ellen (Stewart) Hewson. Ellen lived in Petersburgh her entire life. She was a graduate of Berlin Central High School in 1964 and then went to McCann Vocational School in North Adams for Medical Transcription. County Seeks to Purchase Property as Home for New Senior Center

Rensselaer County is seeking to purchase property on State Route 22 in Hoosick as the new home for the county senior center in the Hoosick area, County Executive Steve McLaughlin and members of the County Legislature recently announced.

The county is seeking approval by the County Legislature to allow for the purchase of the former Dollar Tree store located at 21299 State Route 22. The county has been seeking to find a new location for the senior center as the Murphy Building owned by the county has become outdated.

Annual Wounded Vet Run

A tradition was continued loudly on the afternoon of Saturday, July 29th, with the annual Upstate New York Wounded Vet run leaving from the Brunswick Harley-Davidson. The run this year brought together Harleys and other bikes to benefit Rensselaer County native Marissa Strock, who fought bravely in the War on Terror before she was seriously wounded. Today, Marissa continues to inspire many with her story and actions. Veteran Service Agency Director Kevin Miller, riders from all over the area, and elected officials gathered for the annual event.

New Director of Pupil Personnel Services

The Berlin Central School District (BCSD) welcomes Mr. Tom Olsen to its Administrative Team. Mr. Olsen joins BCSD as the new Director of Pupil Personnel Services.

Mr. Olsen has had a busy month at BCSD, working alongside the Summer Academy staff and attending administrative meetings as well as Board of Education meetings. It has been a wonderful opportunity for Mr. Olsen to learn as much as he can about the district as he prepares for the coming 2023-2024 school year.

HACA Food Pantry Struggles to Meet Increased Demand

The Hoosick Area Church Association (HACA), 26 John St, served the local community through the pandemic, but the mission is even more challenging now as the organization faces a steep increase in demand for its food pantry and other services. This is attributed to the increases in need from inflation and supply chain issues hitting the economy at the same time. Requests for help soared more than 50% in June compared to a year earlier. So far in 2023, HACA has served 41% more people than for the same period in 2022.

“Voices of the Fallen”

On Saturday and Sunday, August 5th and 6th, the Friends of the Bennington Battlefield, in association with Bennington Community Theatre, will present “Voices of the Fallen” at the Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site, Rt. 67. Three performances will be presented each day.

“Voices of the Fallen” is a theatrical and historical experience grounded in research. Historically dressed actors will bring to life people from both sides of the conflict who lost their lives at the Battle of Bennington, giving voice to those who did not live to tell their stories.

New Lebanon School Supply Drive

Lebanon Valley Community Corporation (LVCC), a newly formed 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity organization, fosters the community and economic well-being of the Town of New Lebanon, its residents, and its neighbors.

Milton J. Maxon – Obituary

Cherry Plain – Milton J. “Jay” Maxon, 65, the sixth child of Maurice and Irma (Adams) Maxon, who was named after his paternal grandfather, passed away on July 27th, 2023.
