The Petersburgh Street Walkers

The women who walk every road in Petersburgh completed them again this year. Pictured here are Kathy Mitaly, Kate Bagley, Mary Lou Walters, and Nan Lance. Mary Lou has been doing this for 15 years now for a total of 3,330 miles. Nan has been doing it for 5 years for a total of 1,110 miles. History of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department
Rik McClave will present a History of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department at the next meeting of the Stephentown Historical Society. The talk will be at 2 pm on Sunday, October 6th at the Stephentown Heritage Center, 4 Staples Road. Asters Galore
You can't miss the beauty of our area's native perennial asters this time of year. Here, the larger Swamp Aster (Symphyotrichum puniceum) with the petite Calico Aster (Symphyotrichum lateriflorum) are intertwined in a Petersburgh yard. There are many other varieties of asters blooming now too. Enjoy them along with our contrasting yellow goldenrod flowers.

Dog Attack

On Wednesday, September 11th, Hoosick Falls Police were dispatched to Fourth Street in the Village of Hoosick Falls for a dog bite. Upon investigation it was found that a 2-year-old had been attacked by four Rottweilers. The child was rendered care by the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad and a Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad Paramedic and was transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment. East Nassau Town Board Highlights

The September 11th meeting for the East Nassau Board was relatively brief, but business was still occurring. The meeting opened with the approval of the treasurer's report and August minutes. According to the building department's report, a property on Webster Hill Road has a sale pending. A permit and a site inspection were issued for a property on State Route 66 after a new owner's renovation was completed. A permit was issued for the roof on a property on Route 20, and two other permits on Dunham Hollow Road and also on Route 20 are pending. The building inspector also held a consult on a property on Tayer Road.

The Start of Hunting Season

Hunting is among the most popular forms of wildlife recreation in New York State. Nearly 700,000 New Yorkers and over 50,000 nonresidents hunt in the Empire State.
Many state lands, including Wildlife Management Areas, State Forests, Forest Preserves, and State Parks are open for hunting and trapping during the appropriate seasons, and some season start dates either just arrived or are right around the corner. Regular and bowhunting bear season is beginning this week in some parts of the Adirondacks. Additionally, early bowhunting for deer in all WMUs of the Northern Zone begins September 27th.

First Round (from gold/white/blue):
Leon Rosko(5) and Eddie Powers(5) defeated Jeff Stevens(4) and Keith Shannon(8). After a push on hole 1 with all bogeys, Eddie and Leon parred hole 2 to go up 2.5 to 1.5. A birdie by Leon on hole 3 gave his team a 4 to 2 lead. Leon parred hole 4 and Keith picked up a win with his stroke. This left the match at 5 to 3. Leon and Eddie took control of the match with a birdie by Leon and par by Eddie. They were up 7 to 3 after 5 holes. Leon and Eddie both parred hole 6. Eddie had another par on hole 7. After 7 holes, the score was 10 to 4.
