September 2, 2023 By Eastwick Press

By Denise Wright
The August 21st Petersburgh Town Board meeting was extremely busy with projects and appointments.

After approving the minutes, the supervisor reported that she had distributed the budget reports to the general fund department heads. On October 4th, there will be a special meeting to present the information to the town board. The building report thanked the volunteers working in the town gardens; as one town board member mentioned, "It has spruced up the town."

Stephentown Town Board Highlights

September 1, 2023 By Eastwick Press

By Denise Wright
The August 21st town board meeting was less than an hour but highlighted some great things.

After approving paying the bills and minutes from the July 17th and August 14th special town board meetings, the transfer station reported that the clean-up day on June 9th was a great success. It cost a total of $5,551.03, which is $1,210.42 more than in 2022. Last year, approximately 16 tons of construction/demolition materials were collected, and that nearly doubled this year. The town board reported that materials ranging from electronics to mattresses were collected. One resident thanked the board for holding a day like this because it decreases items left along roadsides.

Repair Café

September 1, 2023 By Eastwick Press

The Columbia NE Repair Café and the Climate Smart Committees of Chatham, New Lebanon, Austerlitz, and the Village of East Nassau, have collaborated to host a repair café on Saturday, September 23rd, from 10 am to 2 pm, at the Hoags Corners Firehouse, 7237 NY 66.

A repair café event is a free, volunteer-run event for the whole community. Whether you have a broken lamp, a bike with a flat tire, or a chair leg that needs mending, a repair café helps to divert items from the landfill, teaches valuable fixing skills, and brings neighbors together to help one another. We encourage visitors to engage with our experts to learn more about repair. There will be refreshments and plenty of socializing. While the event is free, donations are welcomed to help us with future events and supply costs.

Looks to Encourage New Volunteers

Submitted by Mary Grant
The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) relies solely on volunteers to respond to emergencies in our community. When you call 911, it's not a paid professional coming to help, it’s your neighbor. Members are a diverse group from all walks of life, in all age groups, with many different talents and interests. What members share is the desire to help neighbors and our community. SVFD needs additional help to keep doing all we do. We especially need some younger members of the Stephentown community to step up and join us.
