Daniel P. Fougere – Obituary

We are sad to announce that Daniel P. Fougere, age 77 of Hoosick, NY, died on Thursday, January 18th, 2024.

Danny “Pop-Pop” Fougere was born in Flushing, NY to MaryAnn (O’Reilly) Fougere and Amable Fougere. Danny enlisted in the U.S. Navy  at the age of 17 and became a radio man serving on the USS Boston for 4 years. St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival

The Hoosick Falls St Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival will take place on Saturday, March 16th. Over 33 years ago, local Irishmen Mike Conway and TJ Carmody wanted to find a way to keep the Irish culture and history alive in the Hoosick area, and decided that a parade was the ticket.

The parade will begin at 1 pm from Wood Park, down Main St, John St, Church St, Willard St, and back down Main. This year’s parade will feature The Taconic Pipe Band, The Yankee Doodle Band, The Capital Brass Band, The Cambridge Band, and many floats and marchers.

A Message Regarding School Tax Errors

The following is a message from Berlin Central School District Interim Superintendent Dr. Maureen A. Long regarding the school tax processing issues that have affected the district.

Dear Berlin CSD Taxpayer,

It has come to our attention that errors may have occurred during the processing of school tax payments, and in some cases, payments were not properly posted or reported to Rensselaer County. You are receiving this communication as it may have impacted your payment being processed correctly.

Petersburgh Town Board Highlights

The January 15th meeting of the Petersburgh Town Board was busy with organizing 2024 projects and proposals. 

After reviewing and approving the minutes, Heinz Noeding reviewed the department reports, stating the town did a fairly good job and that most items were kept within budget. Some repairs and testing due to the boiled water alert did cause some minor adjustments to those budget items.

Stephentown Town Board Highlights

The first regular town board meeting for Stephentown was held on January 15th. After a moment of silence honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the board approved and swore in Tammy Madden as a member of the town board. She will be completing the term of her late husband, Everett Madden, who passed away after being elected for a second term. Tammy Madden is a long-time community member who has previously served with the volunteer fire department as an officer and EMT and is presently working with the historical society. Supervisor Roder swore her in, and she is looking forward to continuing to serve the community in this capacity.

HooRWA Meeting and Presentation

Ecosystem ecologist Allison Gill will talk on “Land to Water: Managing Terrestrial Landscapes to Support Healthy Waterways” at the Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA)’s State of the River and Annual Meeting on Tuesday, February 13th, at 7 pm, in Williams College Griffin Hall, room 5. She will discuss how the way people treat land impacts waterways like the Hoosic River. All are welcome. No registration is needed for this free program co-hosted by Williams College Center for Environmental Studies.

Keyes Scholarship Availability

The scholarship committee of the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church has announced that it will award $500 to a student selected from the Tamarac High School Class of 2024. The money may be used for any type of expenses related to further education. Students do not have to belong to this church or any other church or religion to be eligible for this award.

Interested students must apply for this award no later than March 1st. Application forms can be obtained from the school’s guidance department or downloaded from our website at www.Center

Patricia R. Hinkley – Obituary

Patricia Rita (McMahon) Hinkley passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady, NY on January 16th, 2024. Pat was born on July 22nd,1938 in Hoosick Falls, NY and was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Burke) McMahon. She was married to her late husband Robert Hinkley for 51 years and they resided in Kingston, NY. Pat worked in the business office at Kingston’s Benedictine Hospital for several years after she was first married. Pat was also an active member of Kingston’s Rapid Hose Fire House Ladies Auxiliary and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Wiltwyck Chapter. [Read more…] about Patricia R.
