Submitted by the ASA
New York’s Agricultural Stewardship Association (ASA) will provide tuition support for area farmers to attend a soil health and regenerative farming school taking place October 3rd through 5th, at the Ziehm family’s High Meadows of Hoosick farm.

“We are very excited to partner with the Soil Health Academy (SHA) and help provide opportunities for our local farmers to learn more about soil health principles and practices,” ASA Executive Director Renee Bouplon said. “Providing this financial support will allow local farmers to attend this world-class regenerative farming school tuition-free.”

SHA announced last month that U.S. military veterans will receive tuition support to attend the school and that veterans with New York state residency will receive additional tuition support, lodging, and a $300 stipend to offset attendance-related costs, provided by the Cornell Small Farms Program’s Farm Ops project.

Dr. Marcus Edward Martinez – Obituary

August 9, 2023 By Eastwick Press

Dr. Martinez was born December 4th, 1971 to proud parents Dr. Philip and Gloria Martinez. Gloria once referred to Marcus as her change of life baby. And oh, how he changed her life. It all started shortly after his arrival home from the Putnam Memorial Hospital. An allergy to pine trees (discovered after he had been home for two weeks) necessitated a change in tradition from a family outing when the family would cut down a tree to purchasing an artificial tree. Six years later, he was at it again having life-saving surgery in Boston by the renowned pediatric surgeon Dr. Hardy Hendren. Yes, life was never dull with Marcus in the house. After graduating from Hoosick Falls Central School in 1990 [Read more…] about Dr. Marcus Edward Martinez – Obituary

HACA Food Pantry Struggles to Meet Increased Demand

August 2, 2023 By Eastwick Press

The Hoosick Area Church Association (HACA), 26 John St, served the local community through the pandemic, but the mission is even more challenging now as the organization faces a steep increase in demand for its food pantry and other services. This is attributed to the increases in need from inflation and supply chain issues hitting the economy at the same time. Requests for help soared more than 50% in June compared to a year earlier. So far in 2023, HACA has served 41% more people than for the same period in 2022.
