Fire Departments Community Event

The North Hoosick and Hoosick Falls Fire Departments are sponsoring the 2nd annual community event being held on Sunday, July 2nd, and Monday, July 3rd with several events. These events are:

Sunday, July 2nd

All You Can Eat Breakfast
From 7 to 11 am, at the Hoosick Falls Fire Station on Griffin Avenue. Adults are $10, and children 10 and under are $8. The menu consists of eggs, French toast, home fries, sausage, bacon, toast, milk, orange juice, coffee, and hot chocolate.

Monday, July 3rd

Flea Market and Craft Fair
From 1 to 5 pm. This event is being held on the

Brent Tipple – Obituary

Hoosick Falls – Brent Tipple died peacefully at Albany Medical Center on May 17th, 2023, at the age of 61. His beloved wife Lisa was holding his hand. 

He was born in Troy, NY on October 11th, 1961, to Harold Zwinge and Janis Hakes of Berlin, NY. Years later Janis married Nicolas Tipple of Ghent NY, who adopted Brent and brother Brian as his sons. Brent graduated from Taconic Hills School in 1979. After he went to college in Memphis TN, Brent moved to Norway, Maine where he met his bride to be, Lisa (Curtis) Tipple, the daughter of Dan and Linda Curtis of Oxford Maine. They moved back to NY where Brent skillfully worked at Tipple Logging & Lumber as a NHLA Lumber Inspector and was able to export timber as far as Japan and China.  [Read more…] about Brent Tipple – Obituary

A Day of Remembrance

Hoosick Post #40 American Legion Memorial Day ceremonies will take place on Monday, May 29th, in Wood Park. Join us as we honor the men and women that made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, including John F. Galvin, Jerry J. Jones, James Keegan, Richard Motsiff, John Jack Valentine, and Rich Gorman, veterans who have passed away during the past year.

Memorial Day rites will be stepping off at 8:15 am, from the corner of Main St. and Wilder Ave, and stop at multiple locations to honor veterans at their respective memorials.

Brain Fitness Foundation Unveils Facility

On Sunday, May 7th, The Brain Fitness Foundation unveiled its new facilities in Hoosick Falls with a soft launch event. Attendees were joined by the foundation’s leaders and staff for a luncheon followed by a presentation detailing the organization's mission to provide free, neuroscience-based mental health services to communities across New York State. 

The presentation was opened by Founder and Executive Director, Dr. Suzanne Falla, who highlighted the rise of mental health issues seen on a global scale since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hoosick Falls Board of Trustees

A resolution authorizing the agreement between the Village of Hoosick Falls and Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Corporation and Honeywell International, Inc., was approved. For more information on the agreement, see our lead story on the front page.

The introduction of Local Law A of 2023, establishing a vacant and abandoned building registry, was discussed, as was the fee structure and non-compliance fees. A motion to set a public hearing for Local Law A of 2023 on Wednesday, June 14th, at 6 pm, was approved.

Fidelis Care is holding its Veggies To Go program, offering free locally grown vegetables to residents, on Thursday, May 18th, at Wood Park. It begins at 3 pm, and will run until quantities are gone.

Annual Armed Forces Day Ceremony

Saturday, May 20th, at noon, at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Main St, will be the annual Armed Forces Day Ceremony. This ceremony remembers the 103 men from the Town of Hoosick who died while serving in the United States military from the Civil War through 1959.

This year the Red Knights Motorcycle Club will be co-hosting this important ceremony, which will begin with the singing of the National Anthem by Abbi Weeden. It will feature the raising of the Armed Forces service flags by Red Knights Club members. The names of the 103 men will be read with a bell chime for each. Please join us to remember and honor these heroes.

New Brain Fitness Foundation Opening in Hoosick Falls

The Brain Fitness Foundation is excited to announce a soft launch event social on Sunday, May 7th. Those invited will have a chance to meet the staff and learn more about the Foundation's programs and services. Please note that this is a soft launch, and not open to the general public. A grand opening will be scheduled at a later date. 

By providing cutting-edge, neuroscience-based programs and personalized treatments to improve the mental well-being, brain health, and cognitive function of children, military veterans, and senior citizens in the region, the Brain Fitness Foundation is dedicated to revitalizing communities through transformative mental health care.

Hoosick Falls Village Board Highlights

At the Wednesday, April 12th regular meeting of the Village of Hoosick Falls Board of Trustees, elected officials took their oaths of office after the March 21st elections. Mayor Robert Allen was reelected with 31 votes. Robert Ryan and Doug Sauer were elected to two year terms as trustees, after receiving 36 and 31 votes respectively. Last but not least, Kevin O’Malley was elected to a one year term as a trustee after receiving 35 votes. There were a total of 36 votes.

Rescue Squad Fundraiser

In modern society, it can be easy to take for granted many of the services that we just assume will always be there. We go about our day blissfully unaware that many of the services we need most are being carefully tended to for us. One instance of this is The Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad. The Rescue Squad is located at 21 First Street, and currently operates two twenty-year-old ambulances, servicing the greater Hoosick area and beyond since 1957.
