Patricia Rita (McMahon) Hinkley passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady, NY on January 16th, 2024. Pat was born on July 22nd,1938 in Hoosick Falls, NY and was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Burke) McMahon. She was married to her late husband Robert Hinkley for 51 years and they resided in Kingston, NY. Pat worked in the business office at Kingston’s Benedictine Hospital for several years after she was first married. Petersburgh – Marcia Mains Trask passed away on November 16th, 2023, the day before her 84th birthday, following declining health from Alzheimer’s.
Marcia was born in Rochester, NY to Marcus Mains and Helen Utter Mains. She grew up in Hampton Manor, East Greenbush NY and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and Columbia High School. She received a B.A. in Elementary Education at Oneonta State College where she met her husband, Bruce Robert ‘Bob’ Trask who predeceased her. Hoosick Falls – Janet M. Betit, 91, passed away on Tuesday, November 28th at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls. Janet was born on February 15th, 1932, in Bennington, VT, the daughter of the late Smith and Alice (Pinkham) Brown.
Janet attended school in Hoosick Falls. She was employed as a Home Health Aide with the Visiting Nurses Home Care in Albany, NY. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hoosick Falls, where she was active with several of the clubs. Janet enjoyed walking and crocheting. Everett D. Madden – Obituary
Stephentown – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Everett Daniel Madden, 81, who passed in the comfort of his home on November 19th, 2023 with his family, and wife of 42 years, Tammy, by his side. Everett was born May 9th, 1942 to Lawrence & Betsey (Swarthout) Madden.
A lifelong resident and current Town Councilman of Stephentown, Everett grew up on the family farm that his grandparents established on Madden Road. After graduating from Berlin Central School in 1960, Everett worked at Fuller Brush Company and sold encyclopedias to put himself through college at State University College at Buffalo. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education, he taught industrial arts at Lansingburgh High School. In his younger years, Everett enjoyed operating ham radios and was a member of the Northern Berkshire Amateur Radio Club. He also flew with the North Adams Flying Club until 1977. Born in Troy, December 8th, 1937, Harold is the son of the late George H. and Georgia E. Robert Petersen – Obituary
On September 9th, 2023, Robert “Larry” Petersen of Hoosick Falls and most recently of Mercer Island, WA, passed away peacefully. He was born July 3rd, 1939 in Shelby, IN and preceded in death by his parents Fritz and Bernice “Sue” Petersen, and brother, Jim Petersen.
Larry graduated from Portage High School in Portage, IN and went on to David Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN on a basketball scholarship. After graduation he bought a home and taught at Taft Elementary School in Crown Point, IN. He then moved on to work for Union Carbide in East Chicago, IN. He transferred to the Union Carbide plant in Bennington, VT and moved into an old Victorian home in North Hoosick, NY. He opened Petersen’s Power Equipment selling and servicing camping trailers, lawnmowers, snowmobiles, and motorcycles. After closing his business Larry sold cars for multiple auto dealers in the area, including Haynes Ford in Hoosick Falls until his retirement. Elaine G. Sprunger
Our dear mother and grandmother (Lois) Elaine Garrod Sprunger passed away at the age of 95 on September 14th, 2023. An only child born in 1928 to Arthur and Victoria Garrod of Philadelphia PA, Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Robert J. Sprunger in 1991, several first cousins, and many close friends. She is survived by her children Beth (Michael) Berkowitz and Paul (Katie) Sprunger, and by her five adored grandchildren: Abigail (Erin Kinney-Sprunger) Sprunger, Olivia Sprunger, Jared (Lana LaBarbera) Berkowitz, Kelsey Berkowitz, and Kyle (Kevin Vietmeier) Berkowitz. She is also survived by her close friends Diana and Roger Corbett, and by many others who knew and loved her.
Proud Philadelphia city girl Elaine met country boy and sailor Robert (Bob) John Sprunger and they married in June 1950. Elaine soon became a pastor’s wife and thrived in that role. She was always heavily involved in all the church’s activities, including too many fall bazaars, church dinners, and vacation Bible schools to count. Elaine had a wonderful soprano singing voice, and was always a key member of the church choir. Gilman J. Gervais – Obituary
Pittsfield – Gilman “Gil” Joseph Gervais passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, September 17th, 2023 at the Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Madawaska, Maine on May 24th, 1934, he was one of 10 children to Medley and Anne (Chase) Gervais.
Gil grew up in Maine, traveled for many years as a horse jockey and trainer, and moved to Stephentown in 1966 where he resided with his wife until 2022 when they moved to Pittsfield. After retiring from the horses he ventured into construction where he worked on commercial projects, residential projects, and installing in-ground swimming pools. Gil had a vast array of hands-on knowledge which he was proud to pass along to his son. He was an easy-going, friendly man who could get along with just about anyone. [Read more…] about Gilman J.
