Birds of Prey Assembly

Recently, Hoosick Falls Central School 3rd and 4th grade students attended a “Birds of Prey” assembly presented by the Wildlife Institute of Eastern New York. Presenters Trish Marki and Delaney Dyer shared their knowledge with the students and students got to see five raptors right in the high school auditorium. Students had up-close experiences with an eastern screech owl, an aplomado falcon, a barred owl, a turkey vulture, and a Eurasian eagle-owl, which they saw take flight!

1st Place in the Wasaren League!

On Tuesday, January 28th, the Hoosick Falls bowling team defeated Berlin-New Lebanon 5-0 in a home match at the Barbecue Recreation. The Panthers finished with a total of 3682 pins to Berlin-New Lebanon’s 2853. Hoosick Falls junior Hailey Bedford 267-749 led all bowlers while Noah Bonesteel 206-528 led Berlin-New Lebanon. Other scores from Berlin-New Lebanon included Myra Snyder 214-511, Avyn Capasso 194-506, Kaylee Ferrarin 184-480, Gabe Florada 174-458, Devin Reichert 173-445, Mikael Florada 120-340, Curtis Hurd 109-314, and Eli Gorman 104-279. Other scores from Hoosick Falls included Sam Boyer 267-670, Memphis Hathaway 225-633, Terry Kuebler 234-629, Elliott Brenenstuhl 195-567, Chris Weeden 161-479, Sophie Hayes 195-464, Reed Hoag 147-430, Moses White-Rancourt 159-412, Skyla Myers 141-363, Anastacia McCart 137-359, Carter Stratton 144-349, Michael Wang 129-343, Levi Gifford 106-301, and Ben Stratton 100-290. The win lifts the Panthers’ record to 46-9.

Wasaren League Indoor Track Championships

On February 2nd, the Boys and Girls Indoor Track team competed in the Wasaren League Indoor Track Championships. The Girls finished first by a one-point margin against Mechanicville, with a team score of 128-127, making them the 2025 Wasaren League Champions! The Boys finished 2nd to Stillwater with a score of 141-120, finishing as the Wasaren League Runners Up.

Guptill’s Added to the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry

On January 25th, Sen. Jake Ashby (R,C-Castleton) joined with Albany County Executive Dan McCoy, Colonie Town Supervisor Peter Crummey, NYS Community Preservation Bureau Director Kathy Howe, and local elected officials to celebrate Guptill’s Roller Skating Arena’s enrollment in the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry, a prestigious designation for which only the state’s longest-running community pillars are eligible.

“Guptill’s is iconic,” said Ashby. “Their blend of nostalgic Americana and modern production value is truly unique. The longevity is a credit to the Guptill family’s perseverance, top-notch customer service, and indelible connection to their community. They couldn’t be more deserving of this honor.”

Sex Offender Pleads Guilty

Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly recently announced that Michael Cardwell, 39, of Troy, pled guilty to one count of sexual abuse in the 1st Degree. Cardwell also pled guilty in the Northern District of New York to sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child sexual abuse materials after a federal probe was initiated.

Grafton Town Board Highlights

The Grafton Town Board's January 13th meeting began with an organizational meeting and then moved into its regular monthly meeting.

Supervisor Noeding from Petersburgh discussed a Local Efficiency Grant application that Petersburgh and Grafton would work together to submit. This would enable both municipalities to have money available to consolidate and increase community activities. This would help both communities explore projects that engage residents. One suggestion was to utilize the town green more by adding a pavilion with a reservation system. The board passed the resolution to submit the grant application.

BES Ambassadors Sprinkle Joy with Birthday Kit Project

The Berlin Elementary Ambassadors used their meeting before school on January 15th to give back to the BCSD community. The ambassadors, along with their advisors, Mrs. Peter-Hoen and Mrs. Ruebel, put together "Birthday Kits" for the Berlin Food Closet. While the ambassadors were delivering food drive donations and volunteering at the local pantry before the holiday break, they discovered another way in which they could support Berlin Food Closet director Mrs. Mosher.

Food Drive for Stephentown Food Pantry

In honor of Martin Luther King Day, Indivisible Stephentown is holding a food drive for the Stephentown Food Pantry now through January 31st. Nonperishable food items can be dropped off at the Stephentown Memorial Library or Dave’s Market during normal hours of operation.

Stephentown’s Food Pantry, located at the Federated Church on Garfield Road, has been in operation for 42 years and currently serves 50+ families every week, providing groceries and community support.
