Air National Guardsman Wins National Award

New York Air National Guard Chief Master Sgt. Greg Mihalko, a Stephentown resident, has been named the Air National Guard's recipient of the Lance P. Sijan Leadership Award for 2024.
The award recognizes Airmen who have demonstrated the highest quality of leadership in their jobs and lives.
The award, created in 1981, takes its name from Capt. Lance P. Sijan, a pilot shot down over Vietnam in November 1967 who evaded capture for six weeks. Sijan died in captivity and was awarded the Medal of Honor Posthumously.

Stephentown End-of-Summer BBQ Bash
On Saturday, September 14th, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm, at the Stephentown Federated Church, 1513 Garfield Rd, you are cordially invited to join your church family and many friends and neighbors for fellowship and a delicious pork and turkey BBQ with all the fixin’s, including baked beans, coleslaw, corn-on-the-cob, and watermelon. If the weather is nice, we might eat outside. The cost is a goodwill offering, and proceeds will go towards our Manse siding project. The dinner is hosted by the Community Breakfast Group and the Sonshiners Group of the Stephentown Federated Church.

Public Visioning Open House Workshops

The Town of Poestenkill will be holding Comprehensive Plan Public Visioning Open House Workshops on Wednesday, September 18th, from 4 to 8 pm at the Poestenkill Firehouse, 182 Main Street and Wednesday, September 25th, from 4 to 8 pm at the First Baptist Church of East Poestenkill, 12 Legenbauer Road.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Event

Rensselaer County, the City of Troy, and the Town of Bethlehem are partnering on an inter-county Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) disposal program for 2024. The program consists of four events providing residents of the participating municipalities the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous materials not accepted through normal garbage collection service.

Hoosick Falls Armory Upcoming Events

Did you know that September is Healthy Aging Month? What better way to improve your health through exercise. The Hoosick Armory has 3 pickleball courts that can be rented for private play, family get-togethers, or office team events. Another option is to join the Pickleball Club, which is a great way to learn if you are a beginner and a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends. The Club plays just about every day and you can drop in at any time to learn more or visit the Armory website for more information at hoosickarmory.org/pickleball.

A young Marine, among the honorable elite of our Armed Forces. The first of the United States military to be called in times of war. Qualifying by enduring and successfully meeting all of the excruciating rigors placed before him. Raising his hand and making the solemn promise to protect and defend his homeland at all costs. Putting his country first, putting his fellow Americans first. This young Marine, rising in the ranks, in charge of a platoon of his fellow Marines.

Bark n’ Brew Fundraiser
Grafton Lakes State Park is hosting Bark n’ Brew, a fundraising event that is open to local businesses to add some diversity to the mix, as well as locally crafted beer, with proceeds supporting regional rescue organizations. This event is on September 14th, from noon to 3 pm. The event is free with a $6 vehicle entrance fee. Food and beverages are available for an additional charge.

Kristoffer Andrew Ross and Community Potluck
On Saturday, September 21st, at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center (PVMCC), 71 Main St, the Fox Hollow Café will host Kristoffer Andrew Ross. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the show starts at 6 pm. Adult admission is $5 and minors are free.
