2023 Trout Day Announced

Grafton Lakes State Park (GLSP) is hosting its annual Trout Day. The event will be held during school Spring Break on April 11th, from 10 am to 12:30 pm. As the weather gets warmer, it is the perfect time to stock Long Pond and Second Pond with trout. The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will be providing trout, and Grafton will be providing activities.

Come on your own or bring out the whole family; Trout Day is the perfect event for all ages. Enjoy trout shaped treats, crafts, and educational booths highlighting the wonders of trout. Learn about their habitats, fly tying, and macro invertebrates.

Hilldale Farm Foundation Scholarship

The Hilldale Farm Foundation is accepting scholarship applications from Rensselaer County students seeking higher education in agriculture and related trades. Applicants should be graduating high school seniors who have resided in Rensselaer County for the last two years, and have been accepted to a college, university, vocational, or trade school in New York State. Suitable majors and trade programs include, but are not limited to, agriculture, horticulture, pre-veterinary studies, food science, welding, diesel mechanics, etc.

Petersburgh – Charles E. Carr, 79, died Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at his home in Petersburgh.  He was born in Lebanon, NH on May 23, 1943, the son of the late Charles T. and Helen Campbell Carr. David M. Hunt – Obituaries

Grafton – David M. Hunt, of Jay Hakes Road, passed away from cancer on Friday, March 24, 2023 at the age of 63, after a period of declining health.

Born in Framingham, MA and raised in Ashland, MA, he was the son of David E. Hunt and Claire S. (Bonvini) Hunt. He attended Cornell University in NY and later received his Ph.D in Botany from the University of Georgia. His focus was aimed specifically at oak trees, when he saw early in his studies down in Florida the rapid decline of a specific species of oak, the Florida Scrub Oak (Quercus inopina). Marion S. Crandall – Obituaries

Berlin –  Marion S. Crandall, 83, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, after a long fight with dementia.

Born April 15, 1939, in Petersburgh, NY, she was the daughter of Calvin Goodermote and Dorothy Crandall.

Hoosick Falls Armory History

The Hoosick Falls Armory was designed by Isaac Perry, then New York State Architect, and was constructed in 1889. Much of the original features remain, including the drill shed, now known as the Perry Room. The Armory was added to the State Historical Register in June 1991, and to the National Register in March 1995.

The Village of East Nassau is celebrating its 25th anniversary as a village. The East Nassau Board of Trustees had a busy evening on Monday, April 3rd, with a public hearing, organizational meeting, and regular April board meeting. These meetings will bring some change to the administration in East Nassau for 2023, with the resignation of Mayor Adam Acquario.

New DMV Satellite Office

Rensselaer County officially has a new DMV satellite location, with the opening of a new office at the new county offices at 99 Troy Road in East Greenbush.

Located on the first floor, the office offers residents the opportunity to register vehicles, handle license issues, and other related matters. The new satellite expands the hours of service offered by the county for DMV services.

“Rensselaer County has a tradition of providing excellent and responsive DMV services and this new satellite will expand that service and give our residents more opportunity to handle licenses and registrations close to home,” said County Executive Steve McLaughlin.
