Hasselwander Found Guilty

Ian J. Hasselwander, 24, of Petersburgh has been found guilty after a jury trial on one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-I Felony and one count of Strangulation in the First Degree, a Class C Violent Felony.
Hasselwander was arrested by the Rensselear County Sheriff’s Department on March 4th, 2022 in connection with the investigation into the disappearance and death of Morgan Bates. The investigation began as a missing person complaint on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 and turned into a suspicious death investigation when Morgan’s body was located in

Legislature Urges State Leaders to Close Dunn Landfill

In a resolution passed unanimously on Tuesday, July 9th, the Legislature called on the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Governor Kathy Hochul to deny the permit renewal for the Dunn Construction and Demolition (C&D) Landfill, which borders the Rensselaer City School District and the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in East Greenbush. Over the years, the Legislature has adopted several resolutions that urged the state to take corrective actions, and to deny the renewal of the landfill’s operating permit.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Event

Rensselaer County, the City of Troy, and the Town of Bethlehem are partnering on an inter-county Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) disposal program for 2024. The program consists of four events providing residents of the participating municipalities the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous materials not accepted through normal garbage collection service.
The next event will be Saturday, July 27th at the Town of Schodack Highway Garage in Nassau, 3776 U.S. Route 20.
Participating Municipalities for this event are the Towns of Schodack, Nassau, North Greenbush, Sand Lake, Poestenkill, and Bethlehem, as well as the Cities of Troy and Rensselaer.
The disposal events are a free service available to residents of the participating municipalities only. Advance registration is required, and residents who have not pre-registered will be unable to utilize the program. Residents must

Honoring Our Local Heroes

Rensselaer County has vowed to never forget the service and sacrifice of our veterans and their families. On Monday, June 10th, veterans, residents, and elected officials joined to recognize a major contribution by the Kelly family who had seven sons serve in defense of our nation.
Those serving include brothers James, Francis, William, Donald, Charles, Robert, and George. The brothers served our nation during World War II, Korea, the Cold War, and Vietnam.
