Community Solar Update

The Stephentown Clean Energy Committee reports great progress on the Community Solar Campaign. As of Monday, February 12th, our partners at PowerMarket report that 40 households in Stephentown have successfully completed the subscription process and another 26 have at least begun the process and are awaiting eligibility checking.

School Tax Update

Driver Presented with County Commendation

Quick thinking by Brunswick (Brittonkill) Central School District bus driver Barry Sullivan helped avoid a tragedy on January 30th, when he pulled a young girl back onto the bus and out of the path of a van that came just a few feet from the bus door. County Executive Steve McLaughlin presented Barry with a county commendation and a county challenge coin. McLaughlin also thanked Transportation Supervisor Todd Wojtal and senior bus driver Debbie Phillips for their work.

Burdett Birth Center Public Forum

County Officials Accept Delivery of New Voting Machine

Rensselaer County has accepted delivery of cutting-edge Clear Ballot Systems electronic voting machines. 

The County Legislature unanimously approved the purchase of Clear Ballot’s ClearVote 2.4 systems ClearMark and ClearCast Go machines, which have undergone rigorous testing and received approval from the New York Board of Elections. These machines are designed to be more efficient and accessible, especially for individuals with special needs.

Tamarac Senior Claims NYS Championship

Tamarac Senior Ragan Retell recently claimed the title of New York State Champion in Girls Wrestling at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse. Ragan was up against 16 girls in her weight class of 126 lbs.

Along with her recent Championship, Ragan's other wrestling achievements include:
• Reached 100 career wins on January 28th
• Invited to Team USA Olympic Trials Training Camp

Motor Vehicle Accident

On Tuesday, January 30th, at approximately 2:42 pm, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on NY-7 in the town of Pittstown. Upon arrival, deputies observed a white van off the roadway which had suffered severe damage. Free Bulk Trash Drop-Off

Mayor Carmella Mantello has announced a new weekly free bulk trash drop-off program for City of Troy residents. It has been several years since Troy residents have been able to dispose of household items during the winter months. In the past the bulk pick-up has been suspended annually from December through spring with residents then paying various fees.

Guilty Plea for 2023 Stabbings

Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly has announced that Anthony Cresser, 25, of Troy, pled guilty to 2 counts of Attempted Murder in the 2nd degree from an incident in September, 2023. 

Cresser was accused of stabbing three individuals in a parking lot in an apartment complex in Brunswick, NY.
