DWI Memorial Ceremony

A solemn ceremony was held on Tuesday, April 23rd: the annual Rensselaer County DWI Memorial Ceremony. Family, friends, law enforcement, and elected officials were on hand.

The ceremony included the addition of two victims of DWI crimes: John A. Flood Sr., who was killed in 2020, and Kevin Patrick Munn, who was killed in 2022. Sadly, there are now 39 names of residents killed by DWI-related crimes.

Take Back the Night Walk

The annual Take Back the Night Walk sponsored by the Family and Friends of Liza Ellen Warner Association, Inc. highlights the plight of domestic violence and helps ensure the memories of those lost to violence are carried forward. The recent walk, held 20 years after Liza was murdered, was led by her mother Martha Lasher-Warner in the Hampton Manor neighborhood of East Greenbush.

Busy Spring for Berlin Church and Food Closet

On May 3rd through 5th, and 10th, the church will host their annual Mother's Day plant sale at Taconic Mountain Insurance, Route 22.

May 10th and 11th, the BCFC will hold another craft supply sale.

The Food Closet Mother's Day dinner has been replaced by a small charcuterie tray. Please call to reserve your tray. Leave your phone number so we can call with pick-up instructions.

Berlin CSD Budget Information

Gordon H. Hoffman – Obituary

Poestenkill – Gordon Henry Hoffman, 73, died suddenly in his sleep at home on Saturday, April 27th, 2024, on the day of his wife’s burial in Berlin.

He was born in Hoosick Falls on February 15th, 1951, the loving son of Luella Mae (Goodermote) Hoffman of Cherry Plain and the late William Gordon Hoffman. He resided in Cherry Plain for many years before moving to Poestenkill 30 years ago. He attended Berlin Central School.

Gordon drove an oil truck for over 55 years and was currently still employed by Legenbauer Gas & Oil Co. in Averill Park, a job that he loved. On the side, he did brush hogging jobs. [Read more…] about Gordon H. Hoffman – Obituary

Valente Pleads Guilty to Second-Degree Manslaughter

Anthony Valente, a mine manager at the R. J. Valente Quarry in Grafton, has pled guilty to manslaughter in the second degree, a Class C felony. Valente admitted to causing Darren Miller’s death in October 2022 by disregarding and overriding safety features of a crane Valente was operating, which resulted in a piece of the crane striking Miller, a 35-year-old mechanic, and causing his death. The manager agreed to serve a six-month jail sentence and five years of probation. He is expected to report to jail on June 14th.

Annual Book Sale

On Friday through Sunday, May 17th though 19th, The Friends of the New Lebanon Library will host their annual book sale to benefit the New Lebanon Library at the Church of Our Saviour, located at 14660 NY 22. Prices range from 50 cents for a children’s book to $2 for a hardcover. Specialty books will be individually priced.

Stephentown Town Board Highlights

The April 15th meeting of the Stephentown Board was relatively brief but had some critical information for the residents.

After paying the bills and approving the minutes from the March meeting, Supervisor Roder and members of the board shared that the Hazardous Waste Day will be April 27th. If residents would like to participate, they must call to make an appointment. Roder wanted residents to know that the town cleanup day will be June 7th. He stressed that there have been numerous complaints about trash on backroads and wanted residents to be extremely mindful of this issue. He asked residents to make the day and time of the town clean-up day work for your schedule.

Petersburgh Town Board Highlights

The Petersburgh Town Board was extremely busy on April 15th with bid approvals and reviews of plans and purchases.

After the March 18th minutes were approved, the highway department reported that cleaning and checking roads were in progress. The water district has been dealing with voltage unbalance issues at the pump-house, but it has cleared. The library reported a wonderful pass program with local museums that residents can take advantage of. The state has inspected the shelters for the animal control officer and deemed them satisfactory.
