Philip Leonard passed away peacefully at his home in Hoosick Falls, NY on October 19, 2024 surrounded by his family. Born on May 16, 1926, in Monticello, NY, Phil was the son of Gertrude (Winokur) and Harry Lashinsky, both naturalized citizens who immigrated through Ellis Island from the Polish/Russian border in pursuit of a better life. His dad worked tirelessly to bring the rest of the family to the United States, instilling a strong sense of dedication and hard work. He loved and looked up to his older sisters, Ann and Belle, who set the standard for the importance of education, and made sure he went to college. Phil took on various jobs to earn his way through college by driving taxi cabs in the Catskills in the summer, driving a laundry truck, and refereeing basketball games. Petersburgh – Nancy L. Jones, 83, of Petersburgh, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, October 17 at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 6, 1941, in White Mills, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Hazel Lee.
Nancy was known for her opinionated, stubborn nature, but even more so for her quick wit, sarcastic humor, and warm heart, traits she lovingly passed on to her children. She lived a simple but joyful life, spending summers camping at Lake Champlain, indulging in her love for Amazon shopping (with an impressive collection of emery boards!), and cherishing every moment spent with her family. Edward Post – Obituary
Edward (Ted) Post (96) passed away on October 10th, 2024 after a short illness. Born on July 24, 1928, he was the son of Sterling Post and Alberta (Greenaway) Post. He married Ann (Fleming) Post and they were happily married until her passing some years ago.
He served in the Coast Guard and often spoke of those adventures in his later years. He lived in Hoosick Falls throughout much of his life, and worked at Wood Flong/Lydall until his retirement. Grafton – Jon Craig Surprise of Grafton passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Troy, Craig was the son of the late John E. and Lois M. Wagner Surprise. Craig resided in Grafton most of his life. He was a graduate of LaSalle Institute and Huson Valley Community College.
Craig had a 37-year career with Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation and when he retired, he was a Traveling Operator for Hydro Facilities and Substations. Craig was Tax Assessor for many years at a number of municipalities. He was currently Tax Assessor for the Towns of Grafton, Petersburgh, Greenport and Taghkanic. Stephen E. Bowman
Petersburgh – Stephen Earl Bowman passed peacefully from this life, in the home he built, surrounded by the love of his family on September 13, 2024 at the age of 81.
Stephen was born in Hoboken, New Jersey on May 28, 1943, the son of the late Earl Bowman and Ruth (Scholz) Albrecht. He was an area resident for much of his life and had served in the U.S. Army from 1963 until 1967 in Germany. He was honorably discharged from service and with his wife, the love of his life, Kathleen M. (Schaefer) Bowman settled locally.
