Berlin – Kevin L. Seifridsberger 60, of Rte. 22 Cherry Plain, died on Friday, June 2nd, 2023 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy, under the care of hospice. Kevin was surrounded by his family and had been battling a long illness. Born in Cohoes, Kevin was the son of the late Gerald J. and Henrietta M. Smyth Seifridsberger and the beloved husband of Edith Gonyea Seifridsberger. Kevin grew up in the “Alps” in the Town of Nassau and was a graduate of the Liberty Christian Academy in 1982. Kevin entered the Navy in 1983 and served on submarines before his discharge in 1987. After the Navy, Kevin worked for Johnson Controls in Albany, then worked in the factory at Taconic Plastics, and lastly was a driver for Earl T. John H. Kanopka – Obituary
Berlin – John Henry “Jack” Kanopka passed away in the comfort of his home on Sunday, May 28th, 2023. Born in Pittsfield on June 6th, 1949, he was the son of the late Casimir and Dorothy (Chittenden) Kanopka.
Jack grew up in Berlin and graduated from Berlin High School. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. Back home, he worked for the New York State Department of Transportation for 35 years until his retirement in 2002. Jack volunteered much of his time to local fire departments, beginning in Stephentown from 1972 to 1975, and then for Berlin for 33 years where he served as Chief. Raymond C. Etman – Obituary
Raymond C (Bunky) Etman, 88, a lifelong resident of Grafton, New York died peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at his winter residence in Fort Pierce, Florida with his family at his side following a battle with cancer. Born in Grafton, New York on March 2, 1934, Mr. Etman was the son of Albert and Leona (Vars) Etman and for over 65 years, the husband of Dianne J. (Grandjean) Etman.
Mr. Etman attended the Berlin Central Schools and worked from the time he was a young teen. During his early years he worked on the family farm and was employed by several different construction companies prior to enlisting in the US Army during the Korean War. He served 2 years of active duty as a Private First Class and an additional 4 years in the Army Reserves. Following an honorable discharge, he was a truck driver for Rifenburg Construction, White Cross Diaper Service, and then Harrigan’s Laundry. He also served as Grafton Superintendent of Highways for 4 years. In 1975 he became a school bus driver for Brittonkill Central Schools and later for the Wynantskill Union Free School District before retiring in 2019 at the age of 85 and with over 44 years as a school bus driver. Robert L. Geerholt passed away at the Pine Haven nursing home at the age of 68. Bob was the son of the late Robert and Ruth Geerholt of Stephentown. Bob was predeceased by his loving wife of 38 years, Donna. Bob was born in Pittsfield, MA and lived in the area until moving to Florida with Donna, where they lived for or 38 years. Stephentown – Tobias J. “Toby” Cornell, 42, of Calvin Cole Road, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 5th, 2023 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy after being stricken ill on Thursday. Born in Pittsfield, Toby was a lifelong resident of Stephentown. He was a 1998 graduate of the Berlin High School. Toby started his working career at XCA Composite Mfg. in Stephentown and at the time of his passing had worked for 10 years at Evonik in Waterford where he was a Chemical Mixer. Charles T. Cinney – Obituary
Berlin – Charles T. Cinney, 83, passed away peacefully after a long illness on February 17th, 2023 with loved ones at his side. Born on July 21st, 1939, he was the son of the late Mary and George Richmond of Petersburgh, NY.
Charlie was educated in Petersburgh and Hoosick Falls Schools. He was a lifelong Berlin resident who was employed for over 30 years at WJ Cowee in Berlin, and later at the Berlin Central School District for over 20 years in the transportation department as a bus driver and mail carrier. Charlie was a real movie buff and recently went to see the new Elvis movie twice because he loved it so much. He could recall movies from long ago and remember who starred in them. He was an avid wildlife and nature lover and could often be found in the many hollows of the area with his camera in hand, as he was quite the photographer too. Hancock – Norman Robert Rathbun, Sr., 79, lifelong resident of Hancock, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 15th, 2023. Born in Hancock on July 17th, 1943, he was the son of the late Julius Rathbun and Olive White.
Norman graduated from New Lebanon Central Schools in 1961. He worked as a dairy farmer on his own farm and at several local farms for many years. In his free time he could often be found keeping his property clear, mowing the yard, cutting firewood for the house, or working in the garden. He also enjoyed watching the wildlife from the porch.
