Electronics Recycling Event

On Saturday, March 23rd, from 9:30 am to 1 pm, at the Rensselaer County East Greenbush Office Building, 99 Troy Road, the Rensselaer County Legislature and Environmental Management Council will sponsor an electronics recycling event. The event will be held in the parking lot. Accepted items include, but are not limited to, audio/visual, cell phones, printers, copiers, video game systems, wiring, and cables. Items not accepted include, but are not limited to, dishwashers, refrigerators, cleaning products, paint, tires, and fluorescent lamps and lightbulbs. East Nassau Town Board Highlights

The March 13th meeting of the East Nassau Board of Trustees began after public hearings on the tentative 2024 budget and the village speed reduction on all 3.4 miles of village roads.

After the board approved the treasurer's report and meeting minutes, village attorney Catalano reported that the code enforcement officer is working on a situation on Durham Hollow Road and has developed a rough draft on the accessory structure issue update in the land use law. He plans to have a copy to share at the next meeting. He reviewed the resolution of Local Law #2 of 2024, which will reduce the village speed limit to

Emmajane B. Cottrell – Obituary

Hoosick Falls – Emmajane B. Cottrell died on Wednesday, March 13th, 2024; she was 101. She was born July 24th, 1922 to Howard and Lucy Babcock of Grafton, NY, where she was raised with her two older siblings, Raymond and Esther. In October 1944 she married Sherman Cottrell and relocated to his family dairy farm in Hoosick Falls. Emmajane was a wonderful wife, loving mother, and impeccable homemaker. She loved to cook and took pride in keeping her home and yard neat and organized. Emmajane’s best friend was her sister Esther (Tilley) and the two families were inseparable as the kids grew up in the 60’s and 70’s. Isabel J. Krebs – Obituary

Stephentown – Isabel Joan Krebs of Stephentown, NY passed away at the age of 89 on March 13th, 2024 in East Greenbush, NY. Isabel was born on March 19th, 1934 in Davao City in the Philippines, to Edwin and Helen Cogan who were British citizens.

In December of 1941, Isabel and her parents were captured by the Japanese Army and placed in the Santo Tomas Internment Camp in the Philippine capital of Manila. The family survived incredibly harsh conditions for over three years before being liberated by the U.S. Army in February of 1945. County Mourns Loss of Resident

Rensselaer County is mourning the loss of a county resident killed in a helicopter crash in Texas on Friday, March 8th, while serving with the National Guard.

Family members have confirmed the death of Casey Frankoski, a graduate of Columbia High School, who was serving with the National Guard.

Tamarac Basketball Donates to American Cancer Society

The Tamarac basketball program recently presented a check for $21,117 to the HopeClub at the American Cancer Society for their 2023-2024 #foreverfranzy Coaches vs Cancer donation.

The ForeverFranzy featured 25 varsity boys basketball games and 9 JV games over the course of four days; 52 school districts participated in the event.

Annual Food Closet Corned Beef Dinner

The Berlin Food Closet’s annual corned beef and cabbage dinner will be held on Saturday, March 16th, from 4 to 6 pm. The cost for the take-out meal is $17 for adults and $8 for children. Local Man Facing Drug Charges

A Troy man is facing drug charges following a year-long investigation by the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office. Michael Peabody, 55, is being charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st degree, three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd degree, one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree.

Lions’ Annual Penny Hunt

The annual Penny Hunt, which the Lions have been hosting since 1960, is scheduled for Saturday, March 23rd, at 1 pm, in Wood Memorial Park. The rain date is the following Saturday, March 30th. This fun family event is great for all kids. Kids up to age 9 can participate in the penny hunt portion of the day and the older ones can take their chances with the egg toss.
