Are you a Stephentown resident who would like to meet and greet your new neighbors and meet new friends? Join us on Sunday, July 21st, at 11 am at the Stephentown Memorial Library for a casual welcome reception. We'll be serving brunch items, coffee, and beverages. Bring a cup of your favorite summer fruit to add to a community fruit salad.

When you join us you’ll be offered a tour and opportunities to:

• Learn about local organizations like Stephentown’s Volunteer Fire Department, Veterans group, the food pantry, and the Stephentown Historical Society.

Stephentown Town Board Highlights

The Stephentown Town Board meeting on June 17th was brief but discussed some upcoming summer projects. After the audit of claims and minutes was approved, it was reported that the transfer station had an exceptionally good month, with a total of $8,811 collected through the sale of bags and stickers and the collection of metal, electronics, tires, and propane tanks. Councilwoman Clark described the village clean-up day as quite successful. She thanked the volunteers and workers for their wonderful assistance and organization. Supervisor Roder commented that seeing neighbors helping neighbors was great.

Strawberry Festival

Strawberry shortcake will once again be the star at the 42nd Annual Strawberry Festival on Sunday, June 23rd, at Gardner’s Ice Cream and Coffee Shoppe, 15879 NY Route 22. Steventown Designated as a Clean Energy Community

The Stephentown Clean Energy Communities Committee is pleased to announce that the Town of Stephentown has been officially designated a Clean Energy Community by NYSERDA. In addition, the Town of Stephentown is now eligible for a total of $30,000 in NYSERDA grants, with no required matching funds. These funds will be used to improve the energy efficiency and working environment at the town hall.

The designation as an official Clean Energy Community is the result of Stephentown having completed 4 High-Impact Action Items under the NYSERDA Clean Energy Communities Program. The designation makes the town eligible for a $5,000 grant.

Stephentown Town Board Highlights

At the May 20th Stephentown Board meeting, a great deal of business was covered from resolutions to veterans needing help.

After the audit of claims and approval of minutes were completed, the transfer station reported deposits of $7,295 for March and $6,381 for April. The town clean-up day has been scheduled for June 7th from 11 am to 7 pm. Items like tires and paint cans will be accepted. All residents will need to bring a tax or utility bill with them for proof of residency. Flyers are available in the town clerk's office.

Stephentown Town Board Highlights

The April 15th meeting of the Stephentown Board was relatively brief but had some critical information for the residents.

After paying the bills and approving the minutes from the March meeting, Supervisor Roder and members of the board shared that the Hazardous Waste Day will be April 27th. If residents would like to participate, they must call to make an appointment. Roder wanted residents to know that the town cleanup day will be June 7th. He stressed that there have been numerous complaints about trash on backroads and wanted residents to be extremely mindful of this issue. He asked residents to make the day and time of the town clean-up day work for your schedule.

Vicki L. Guilbeault – Obituary

Stephentown – Vicki L. Guilbeault, 63, passed away on April 5th, 2024 as the result of a heart attack. Vicki was a great wife, mother, and doting grandmother.

She loved her community and when not with family, spent her time volunteering or working at the Stephentown Town Library, where she loved to meet new people and catch up with neighbors. Prior to the library, Vicki worked and retired from the NYS Department of Taxation & Finance.

Alvin F. Berry – Obituary

Alvin F. Berry of Leesburg, FL passed away on April 10th, 2024 at Opis Ruleme Center in Eustis, FL. Alvin was born at home in Ephratah, NY on April 22nd, 1932 to Harold and Mary (Morrison) Berry. Al was an avid baseball player. As a high school senior in 1949 at Berlin Central High School in Berlin, NY, he threw the first no hitter game in Berlin’s history. Alvin married Gayle Croxson on April 19th, 1953. Alvin served in the US Navy from 1951-1955 and worked on a special Navy project tracking hurricanes which required him and Gayle to move to Jacksonville, FL. In 1954, they welcomed David their first child. They moved back to NY in 1955. They lived in Stephentown, NY and after a few years moved back to Berlin, NY. Al started his career at General Electric plastics division in Pittsfield, MA where he was awarded a patent for plastic processing. Al and Gayle had three more children: Kevin, Glenn, and Brenda. Alvin and Gayle were active members in the Stephentown Baptist Church.

After Gayle’s passing, Alvin met and married Maureen Panagos in April 2002. They lived in Stephentown, NY and later relocated to Leesburg, FL for the warm weather Al enjoyed so much. Neil E. Krebs – Obituary

Stephentown – Neil Ernest Krebs of Stephentown, NY passed away at the age of 90 on April 9th, 2024 in North Greenbush, NY. Neil was born on October 20th, 1933 in New York City to the late Harry and Ruth Krebs.

Neil’s skill in mathematics led to him getting a bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD in engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. After getting his master’s degree, he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a company commander of an engineering unit in South Korea in 1957 and 1958.

After returning home, Neil went on to a long career in both civil and mechanical engineering, working for the New York State Dept. of Transportation, General Electric, Sikorsky Aircraft, and Kaman Aerospace. Neil married Isabel Cogan in 1970 and they [Read more…] about Neil E. Krebs – Obituary
