7,097 Trotters Race, Walk, and Give Thanks

The 77th annual Troy Turkey Trot brought a sea of runners, walkers, and families together this morning to celebrate one of America’s oldest and most cherished Thanksgiving traditions. Presented by Pioneer, this beloved event welcomed 7,097 participants from 38 states and 7 countries to the heart of the Collar City.

Yule Log Tradition

A Holiday Scavenger Hunt

Sunday, December 15th, from 1 to 3 pm
Celebrate the ancient tradition of the Yule Log at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center. Hear the story of the Yule Log and why the days are getting shorter and the nights longer at this time of year. Search for a hidden Yule Log, which will be carried back and burned in a campfire by the lake. Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies by the fire. Greens will be available to make crafts. Edward W. Bedford – Obituary

Petersburgh –  Edward William Bedford, 66, of Petersburgh, NY, formerly of Staten Island, NY passed away at Albany Medical Center Hospital, on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Formerly of Staten Island, Edward was the son of Alfred H. Bedford and AnnaMae A. Robinson Bedford. Ed was born in Staten Island, NY and had also lived in Brunswick and most recently in Petersburgh.

A 1977 graduate of Berlin High School in Cherry Plain NY, Edward worked for many companies providing services in construction, roofing, carpentry and maintenance. His last employer was Latham Village, Inc. He was a member of Barbecue Recreation bowling and horseshoe leagues. Ed was humorous, kind, hardworking and helpful. Human Remains Identified as Amanda King

Troy Police Department Press Release
On October 20th, Troy Police Officers responded to the area of the Burden Pond Preserve near Campbell Avenue after receiving a report from a citizen who located a human skeleton. Through investigation, confirmed via dental records and DNA comparison, these remains have been identified as Amanda King. Our work continues while keeping Amanda’s family and loved ones at the forefront of our minds.

Stephentown Lighted Parade

The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department is once again partnering with the Stephentown Senior Citizens, the Town of Stephentown, and the Stephentown Veterans to sponsor a Lighted Parade and tree lighting on Saturday, November 30th. This year the tree lighting at the Veterans Park will kick off the parade – the tree lighting will be held prior to the lighted parade.

Petersburgh Town Board Highlights

The Petersburgh Town Board met on November 18th and discussed a wide range of topics, from the budget to the Christmas Toy Drive.

The department reports were presented after the meeting minutes were approved for October 21st, 28th, and November 6th. The highway department reported that the town trucks are “all set for winter” and that grading roads are close to completion. Some of the hydrants, which date back to the 1960s, that were going to be refurbished need to be replaced because the parts are no longer made. The water district reported that there have been “no yield issues” during the drought. The annual Rensselaer County Department of Health inspection found no critical violations. Testing for coliform and PFOA was

Middle School Food Drive for HACA Food Pantry

The HFCS Middle School recently held a food drive and collected 680 items for the HACA food pantry for holiday food distributions in the community.
