Nathaniel D. Moss – Obituary

Stephentown – Nathaniel D. Moss, 24, of Newton Road passed away on Wednesday, July 17th, 2024 at the Berkshire Medical Center from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Sunday, July 14th on Lebanon Mountain. Born on April 17th, 2000 in Pittsfield, Nate was the son of Amy Moss Goodermote and for the past 18 years the “son” of Steve Goodermote of Stephentown. Nate was a lifelong resident of the Valley and was educated in the Stephentown and Berlin Schools. Nate worked side by side with Steve in the Steve Goodermote Contracting Company with the plan to take over the business in the future. James Andrick – Obituary

James (Jim) Andrick, 76, passed away July 6th, 2024 at his residence in Hoosick Falls. He was predeceased by his parents William and Grace (Wagner) Andrick and his nephew Jared. Legislature Urges State Leaders to Close Dunn Landfill

In a resolution passed unanimously on Tuesday, July 9th, the Legislature called on the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Governor Kathy Hochul to deny the permit renewal for the Dunn Construction and Demolition (C&D) Landfill, which borders the Rensselaer City School District and the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in East Greenbush. Over the years, the Legislature has adopted several resolutions that urged the state to take corrective actions, and to deny the renewal of the landfill’s operating permit.

HVCC Freezes Tuition for Second Consecutive Year

Hudson Valley Community College has held tuition stable for a second consecutive year making the college one of the most affordable higher education options in the state. Full-time students who are New York State residents will pay $2,528 per semester, plus fees. Part-time resident students will pay $211 per credit hour. The Rensselaer County Legislature recently approved the college's $106,105,178 budget.

2024 Retirees and Tenured Employees

The Berlin Central School District extends gratitude and congratulations to this year's retirees and tenured staff members.

A reception was recently held in the Berlin Middle High School (BMHS) cafeteria to honor this year's retirees and tenured employees. The evening began with a welcome from Interim Superintendent Dr. Maureen Long, followed by remarks about the honorees from Director of Pupil Personnel Services Tom Olsen, BMHS Principal David Bernsley, and Berlin Elementary School Principal Tracy Kent.

Robert S. Lewis – Obituary

Berlin – Robert Samuel Lewis, 59, died suddenly on Sunday, June 30th. He graduated from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School in 1982 and SUNY Delhi in 1984, with a degree in landscape design. In August 1985, he married the love of his life and best friend, Maria Cross, his wife of 38 years. They enjoyed living with adventure, friendship, and acceptance at the center of their home.

Rob was part of the Faddegon’s Nursery family for 40 years. He began as a crewmember, advanced to foreman, and ultimately became a successful and popular landscape designer. [Read more…] about Robert S. Lewis – Obituary

East Nassau Village Board Highlights

On July 10th, the Village of East Nassau held a brief board meeting and efficiently completed its monthly business.

The treasurer reported that she has received approximately $30,000 in property taxes so far this year. She asked the board to submit any requests by the Monday before the monthly meetings so she would be able to prepare invoices in a timely manner. The board also approved the treasurer's purchase of return envelopes to improve communications with residents.

Baldwin Memorial Award Winner Announced

The Lebanon Valley Historical Society (LVHS) is proud to announce Gabriel Kalisz of Canaan as the 2024 recipient of the Bruce Baldwin Memorial Award.

As part of his stellar high school career, which included being named Valedictorian of his graduating class, Gabe has taken a number of university-level courses, including US History, earning an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors and Annotations of Mastery in Math and Science. This fall he will be continuing his education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, and plans to major in Electrical Engineering.
