Letter to the Editor: Light Pollution

Most people think of “pollution” as coming from fossil fuels causing excessive and harmful amounts of CO2 in our atmosphere. Or they may conjure up pictures of huge garage dumps or tainted water from dangerous chemicals. There is a kind of pollution we don’t often consider, and that is light pollution. Light pollution is the presence of any unwanted, inappropriate, or excessive artificial lighting

$16.7 Million Maintenance Facility Opening

News from New York State Division of Military & Naval Affairs
Work on Field Maintenance Shop 17 began in March of 2023 and the project was finished in late August of this year.

The project was budgeted to cost $17 million and the new facility was expected to be ready by May of 2025. But the prime contractors of Bette & Cring, Flex Electric, and Crisifulli Brothers brought the project to competition much sooner for about $300,000 less.

Nightmare on Elm Street

Nightmare on Elm Street returns to the Hoosick Armory on Saturday, October 26th. Come for an evening of masquerade, music, and food with a Halloween theme. Doors open at 6:30 pm. The popular band West Side Drive takes the stage at 7 pm. A lucky draw auction and a costume contest will also be held (costumes aren’t required but are encouraged).

Berlin and New Lebanon soccer alumni are having a game on Friday, October 11th, at 5:30 pm at the New Lebanon Jr/Sr High School. A $20 suggested donation benefits New Lebanon Travel Club. Charles B. Bentley, Jr. – Obituary

Petersburgh – Charles Butler Bentley, Jr. passed away peacefully at home September 27, 2024 with his caretaker Louise Harrison by his side. CB fought a courageous battle with diabetes for several years.

Charles (CB, Chuck) was a lifelong resident of Petersburgh, the son of Charles B. Bentley, Sr. and Patricia Meagher Bentley. He was a fourth generation Petersburgh Bentley, born in Troy, NY, January 9, 1956. National Recognition for Special Olympics

Special Olympics New York has announced that Hoosick Falls Central School (HFCS) is 1 of 13 New York schools receiving National Banner Recognition for their Special Olympics Unified Champion School® programming. This distinguished status is a result of HFCS meeting 10 national standards of excellence in the areas of inclusion, advocacy, and respect, while providing inclusive sports and activities for students with and without intellectual disabilities. These standards were developed by a national panel of leaders from the Special Olympics and the education community.
