Daniel Rivera Honored in Washington, DC

The artwork of Daniel Rivera, a 2023 Berlin High School graduate, has been selected by the Angelo Del Toro Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute as part of its invitation to their 34th year celebration and leadership event.

Rivera’s celebrated painting, Tears of Miss Justice: Mourning a Broken System, is now a permanent part of the Democracy Collection within the Art in Embassies repository in Washington, DC.

In addition to Rivera’s painting being featured by organizations such as the Del Toro Institute, American ambassadors around the globe are able to select it for display in their embassies.

School Bus Safety Poster Contest

The Berlin Central School District (BCSD) transportation department is seeking pre-k through twelfth grade Mountaineers to develop a poster that best represents the school bus themes of no bullying on the bus or stop means stop when the bus arm is out.

Any combination of paint, pencil, ink, and marker is acceptable. All work should be 8 1/2 x 11. Entries must be submitted to the Berlin Elementary School or Berlin Middle/High School main offices by October 30th. Contest winners will be decided by a school-wide vote. There will be two contest winners per building.

Christmas Caroling Fundraiser

The Berlin Chamber Choir is now taking reservations for our 3rd annual Christmas Caroling Fundraiser. The chorus and select instrumentalists will be at Fall Fest on October 14th taking reservations. This year we will have two buses so we can accommodate the entire Berlin Central School District community. September Character Assembly

On September 15th, Berlin Elementary School (BES) Principal Ms. Kent and Assistant Principal Ms. Cataldo hosted BES’ first monthly Character Education assembly of the school year for students in kindergarten through 5th grade.

The BES’ Character Education committee focused its first monthly assemblies on the character trait of respect. Respect was defined for the students as accepting somebody for who they are, even when they are different from you, or you don’t agree with them.

New Principal and Town Hall Meetings

As the middle and high school Mountaineers settled into their first few days of school, they were catching up with classmates, meeting new teachers, learning new schedules, and being introduced to Mr. David Bernsley, the new Berlin Middle/High School (BMHS) Principal.

Principal Bernsley has been in the education field for over 20 years as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, Director of Curriculum, and Superintendent of Schools. He is passionate about education and excited to begin his next chapter at the Middle/High School.

New Athletics Logo Revealed

The Berlin-New Lebanon (BNL) Athletic Department, in conjunction with the Merged Sports Committee (MSC), a committee composed of BNL student-athletes, parents, coaches, and both schools’ Athletic Directors, is proud to announce the completion of the new BNL Athletic sports logo and the introduction of new team colors. This process was student-led and driven with the Berlin and New Lebanon Athletic Departments and Merged Sports Committee (MSC) helping to craft the design based off of student responses.

Superintendent Conference Days

“It was great seeing the enthusiasm and engagement of our staff on Opening Day,” said Superintendent Joseph Dhara about Berlin Central School District’s Superintendent Conference Days on September 5th and 6th.

This school year’s Opening Days, or Superintendent Conference Days, offered opportunities for the district to come together for two days of team building, goal setting, and training in preparation for the school year ahead.

New Director of Pupil Personnel Services

The Berlin Central School District (BCSD) welcomes Mr. Tom Olsen to its Administrative Team. Mr. Olsen joins BCSD as the new Director of Pupil Personnel Services.

Mr. Olsen has had a busy month at BCSD, working alongside the Summer Academy staff and attending administrative meetings as well as Board of Education meetings. It has been a wonderful opportunity for Mr. Olsen to learn as much as he can about the district as he prepares for the coming 2023-2024 school year.
