Free Bulk Trash Drop-Off

Mayor Carmella Mantello has announced a new weekly free bulk trash drop-off program for City of Troy residents. It has been several years since Troy residents have been able to dispose of household items during the winter months. In the past the bulk pick-up has been suspended annually from December through spring with residents then paying various fees.

Mary M. Maloney – Obituary

Mary Margaret “Meg” Maloney, 84, died peacefully on Januaryy 26th, 2024, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

The oldest of 11 children, Meg was born in Troy, NY on March 25th, 1939, the daughter of Philip and Mary (Seagroatt) Riccardi. She was raised in Berlin, NY where her family owned a large greenhouse operation which grew roses. Merritt J. Wilson – Obituary

Bennington - Merritt Jay Wilson, 91, passed away on Thursday, February 1st, 2024, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. He resided at Brookdale with his wife Eleanor (Caton) Wilson, who he married in 1976. He is remembered as a man of great kindness, quiet ways, gentleness, and a beautiful sense of humor.

Merritt was born on January 25th, 1933, in Troy, NY, son of the late Harold E. and Mabel (Calhoun) Wilson. He attended the two-room school in Center Brunswick, NY, then Knickerbocker Junior High in Lansingburgh, and graduated from Troy High School. He served in the Army from

Art Block Named #1 Best New Festival

The Arts Center of the Capital Region’s Troy Art Block was recently named the #1 Best New Festival in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Award contest, topping 19 other nominated festivals. After one month of open voting, Troy Art Block came out on top, beating larger cities across the U.S. and other festivals with a broader reach.

76th Turkey Trot Raises $20,000

On a day set aside for Capital Region families to gather and give thanks, 6,641 participants from 33 states and six nations descended upon the Collar City for the 76th running of the Troy Turkey Trot, America’s 12th oldest road race.

The event, presented by Pioneer, began at 8 am, with the Capital Region’s only Thanksgiving Day 10K. Tackling the traditional out and back course were more than 1,200 participants, many of whom run competitively for local track and field clubs. James Withers of Utica, NY outpaced his rivals to win the title in 30:31 and earned a $300 first place prize in the process. The first female across the line was Karen Bertasso Hughes of Selkirk, NY, who also earned a $300 payday with a winning time of 36:15.

Troy Turkey Trot to Feature New Course

The more than 3,000 runners participating in the Troy Turkey Trot’s 5K, the Trot’s featured event, will enjoy a new, safer course with additional breathing room when the event’s 76th edition takes place Thursday, November 23rd, at 10 am.

“Runners’ safety is our top priority,” said Event Director George Regan. “The current 5K course certification recently expired and with the event’s registration trajectory showing greater participation in the 5K, we felt it was appropriate to explore other course options.”

Honoring 34 Years of Service

Congratulations to Troy Fire Chief Eric McMahon on his retirement from service after 34 years. The Troy Fire Department held a walkout ceremony for Chief McMahon at the department's Central Station on Friday, November 10th with scores of firefighters, past colleagues, friends, family, and elected officials on hand.

County Executive Steve McLaughlin was among those wishing Chief McMahon well, and presented him with a county commendation recognizing his service.

Turkey Trot

Officials at the Troy Turkey Trot have announced registration is now open for the 76th running of the Trot on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 23rd, and that more than 2,750 participants have signed up with less than a month to go.

A signature event of the Collar City’s holiday festivities, the Troy Turkey Trot is the nation’s 12th oldest road race and attracts thousands of runners and spectators to historic downtown Troy for the Capital Region’s largest Thanksgiving Day road race.

Man Faces Multiple Charges After Triple Stabbing

On September 16th, the State Police of Brunswick arrested Anthony I. Cresser, 26, of Brunswick, NY, for three counts of Attempted Murder in the First Degree, three counts of Assault in the first degree, Robbery in the first degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree.
