Bark n’ Brew Fundraiser

Grafton Lakes State Park is hosting Bark n’ Brew, a fundraising event that is open to local businesses to add some diversity to the mix, as well as locally crafted beer, with proceeds supporting regional rescue organizations. This event is on September 14th, from noon to 3 pm. The event is free with a $6 vehicle entrance fee. Food and beverages are available for an additional charge.

This annual event is all about your furry friends, so bring them along. We will have a guided dog walk to kick off the event, an agility course, assorted animal care vendors, live music, raffle items, and several animal rescue organizations in attendance. All activities will be at or near the beach.

CPWG Meeting

The next Hoosick Area Community Participation Work Group (CPWG) public meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 20th, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Hoosick Falls High School cafeteria, 21187 NY-22.

In addition to the bi-monthly public meetings, the CPWG is working continuously throughout the year to keep the Hoosick area community well informed.

Donald I. French Jr. – Obituary

Donald Ira French Jr., 90, of Berlin, New York passed away late at night on Monday, July 29th at home of natural causes.

He was born to Donald and Dorothy French in Albany, New York in September 1933. After high school, Don attended Brigham Young University to study farming and education. When he moved to Berlin, New York, Don taught History at Berlin High School. He worked there for 16 years before retiring and has enjoyed watching many of his students grow up, running into them, and talking about the mischief caused in those school hallways.

First Responder Educational Building Dedication

The dedication of the First Responder Educational Building at the Rensselaer County Emergency Services Training Center (ESTC) recognized the dedication and bravery of those men and women who have answered the call for help. The ceremony on Saturday, August 3rd also recognized young Harlee McLean, an elementary school student who regularly visited the project to check on progress. Through her Harlee's Heroes, Harlee has been a major supporter of law enforcement and first responders, and Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) Director Jay Wilson thanked her for her efforts with a special BPS shirt.

Mountaineers Create StoryWalk with Library

The Berlin StoryWalk is a community project that aims to boost literacy and vocabulary beyond the classroom, which is crucial for academic success.

With the focus of engaging children’s creative literacy, the Community Active Mountaineers (CAM) launched the StoryWalk project as part of the Berlin Elementary Nature Trail. This community service is in collaboration with the Berlin Free Town Library and led by CAM advisor Elisa Hammersmith.

Siobhan & Friends and Community Potluck

On Saturday, August 17th, at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center (PVMCC), 71 Main St, the Fox Hollow Cafe will host Siobhan and Friends. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the show starts at 6 pm. Adult admission is $5, and minors are free.

Siobhan is a local folk singer/songwriter and host of The Fox Hollow Music & Art Café.

Car Show and Swap Meet

The SVFD Car Show and Swap Meet is happening on Sunday, August 18th, from 9 am to 3 pm. Cruise on over to the Stephentown Fire Hall, 35 Grange Hall Road, to check out the freshly detailed and buffed to the nines vehicles.

There will be antique autos, classic cars, antique tractors, hot rods, and antique fire trucks. There will also be food, vendors, and raffles. There is something for everyone to enjoy.

New State License Procedures

Beginning this year with the 2024-2025 season, people will be introduced to the state’s new process of printing sporting licenses for fishing, hunting, and trapping. These licenses will now be printed on plain paper from the printer of the issuing agent, or you may print it yourself at home, no longer using the old coated paper. For more information
