Robert A. Oswald – Obituary

Cherry Plain – Robert A. “Bobby” Oswald, 77, died Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Albany Medical Center. He was born in Cherry Plain on June 18, 1944, the son of the late John and Mary Teal Oswald.

Bob was employed by W.J. Cowee, Inc. in Berlin early in his life. He was a school bus driver for the Berlin Central School District for many years and also served as the Town of Berlin Highway Superintendent for four years.

Bob was the grave digger for over 40 years for all of the cemeteries in the Taconic Valley from North Petersburgh to Stephentown. He also served with great pride as the caretaker for the Berlin Community Cemetery also for 40 years and served on the cemetery Board of Trustees. [Read more…] about Robert A. Oswald – Obituary

Karen E. Conklin-Hyland – Obituary

Stephentown – Karen Elizabeth Conklin-Hyland, 66, passed peacefully on May 30, 2022 at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA. Born in Troy, NY on September 20, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Elmer R. and Elizabeth McIntosh Conklin.

Karen graduated from the Berlin Central High School and lived in Stephentown most of her life. She was a homemaker and was employed by the Springside Nursing Home in Pittsfield for 25 years as a kitchen worker.

Keryn M. Lowry – Obituary

Stephentown – Keryn Meri Lowry, 62 years old, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2022. She is survived by her wife Catharine Hough, and family members in New Zealand, Canada, and the United States.

Keryn was born in Wellington New Zealand and lived in Titahi Bay before coming to the States in 2000, where she met her wife in 2001. Allison J. Hall Sr. – Obituary

Berlin – Allison J. “Bud” Hall, Sr., 75, died Saturday evening, May 28, 2022 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

He was born in Hoosick Falls on May 5, 1947, the son of the late Earl Allison and Lillian Travis Hall.  He was raised and educated in Petersburgh and has been a resident of Berlin for over 55 years.

Edward W. Schindler – Obituary

Berlin – Honorable Edward Walter Schindler, retired Berlin Town Justice, died peacefully Sunday, May 22, 2022 at his home in Berlin, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Queens, NY on July 31, 1928, the son of the late Howard Frederick Schindler and Vira B. Hendrickson Schindler. He graduated from Baldwin High School on Long Island, NY and served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He met his wife June McDermott in January of 1953 and they were married on June 13, 1954.  They lived in Seaford, Long Island from 1954 to 1965 when they moved upstate to Berlin, NY. Marion K. Manchester – Obituary

Petersburgh – Marion Katherine Manchester, 98, died peacefully, slipping from the bonds of earth to be with her savior Jesus in Heaven, on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the Center for Living & Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls.

She was born in Rensselaer, NY on August 11, 1923, the daughter of the late Henry and Catherine Monsees Trinemeyer. Her mother passed away in 1928 and due to the depression Marion and her 3 siblings were placed in the Troy Orphan Asylum. She grew up there until the age of 15 when they were all placed together in a foster home in West Stephentown. Marion was a graduate of Berlin High School, class of 1941, then went on to graduate from Berkshire Business College. Clark D. Edelmann

Pittstown – Clark D. Edelmann, 73, a longtime resident of Pittstown, died peacefully in the comfort of his home Thursday, May 12, 2022.

Born in Honesdale, PA, November 7, 1948, Clark is the son of the late Frederick and Norma (Milligan) Edelmann, and husband for over 53 years of Mary A. (Borter) Edelmann of Pittstown, who survives. 

Clark was a graduate of Tamarac High School in 1966. Throughout high school he competed on the wrestling team. Later he became a force to be reckoned with on the arm wrestling table, competing in, and winning, several tournaments.   

Clark was employed right out of high school by the former Matzen Construction Inc. in Raymertown. During his 40 plus years of service at Matzen’s he was held in high regard with his coworkers and held the title of foreman for many years. John W. Crook Jr.

Brunswick – John W. “Jack” Crook Jr., 86, a longtime resident of Brunswick, passed away peacefully Monday, May 16, 2022, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy with his family by his side, following a short illness.

Born in Liberty, New York, April 25, 1936, Jack is the son of the late John W. and Viola (Muthig) Crook Sr. and the loving husband, for over 66 years, of Joan M. (Rifenburg) Crook of Brunswick, who survives.

Jack attended Troy City Schools. He entered the workforce as a young man and worked at several area businesses, where he learned and honed his automotive and mechanical repair skills. Jack earned the friendship and appreciation of the many whose houses he kept warm while working as a service technician for the Hastings Oil Company in Albia. After more than 35 years of service, through all types of weather and seasons, he retired in 2004.

Roland W. Bugbee – Obituary

Johnsonville – Roland W. Bugbee, born October 22, 1938, died April 30, 2022, surrounded by loving family at his beloved farm. He was the son of Phyllis and Perry Bugbee. His earliest cherished memories are of working in the fields with his Dad and going to farm auctions with him.

Roland and Janet Pine married September 1, 1957. Roland built the house in White Creek farm where they started their family of 8 children. Howard Leibensperger – Obituary

Stephentown – Howard Leibensperger, 95, passed away on April 23, 2022 in North Providence, RI. Born in Tampico, Mexico on July 29, 1926, Howard grew up in The Hague, The Netherlands, speaking both English and Dutch. He was the son of Raymond and Bertha Leibensperger, who raised their family in different parts of the world through Raymond’s job in the oil industry. The family eventually returned to New Jersey, where Howard graduated from Montclair High School. In 1944, Howard took college classes at the Virginia Military Institute, and in 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as a battery clerk in Germany in the immediate aftermath of WWII. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1947. From then until his retirement in the early 1990s, Howard worked as an auto mechanic. [Read more…] about Howard Leibensperger – Obituary
