Odyssey of the Mind Team Headed to States

Congratulations to the Berlin Elementary School (BES) Odyssey of the Mind team: Willamina Woodcock, Shayana Peterson, Devlin Maciong-Crimmel, Elizah Harrison, Daniel Hart, and Jacqueline Morstad, along with coaches Mrs. Bersaw, Mrs. Scanlon, and Mrs. Winner. The team won 2nd place in their division for the competition problem posed to them, as well as receiving the top score for the long-term problem.

CASDA Friends of Education Award

Mountaineers Take Part in Coral Trade Show

The 17th Annual New England Frag Farmers Market was the biggest single day coral trade show in the country, and the Berlin Middle High School’s Aquatics Program was one of the participants.

Held at Storrs, Connecticut, on March 2nd, the show featured over 150 exhibitors, including coral and fish vendors, aquatic equipment companies, guest speakers, and workshops.

Students in Mr. Christian’s Marine Biology class, as well as his independent study students, have been growing coral and raising Moon Jellyfish over the last year in preparation for the show.

Tamarac Basketball Donates to American Cancer Society

The Tamarac basketball program recently presented a check for $21,117 to the HopeClub at the American Cancer Society for their 2023-2024 #foreverfranzy Coaches vs Cancer donation.

The ForeverFranzy featured 25 varsity boys basketball games and 9 JV games over the course of four days; 52 school districts participated in the event.

Raymond D. Snyder Jr. – Obituary

Petersburgh – Raymond D. Snyder Jr., 95, passed away on Thursday, March 7th, 2024, at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, NY. He resided in Petersburgh and was the husband of the late Joyce (Mason) Snyder.

Ray was born on January 19th, 1929, in Troy, NY, son of Raymond D. and Mary (Pickett) Snyder. He graduated from Berlin Central School in 1947 and was employed as a Custodian and then maintenance of Buildings and Grounds at the Berlin Central School. March Madness Tournament of Books

During the month of March at Berlin Elementary School (BES), students in grades K through 2 will participate in the second annual March Madness Tournament of Books to celebrate National Reading Month. The book tournament is modeled after March Madness in college basketball. Each week students will listen to two read alouds in their classroom and vote on which they liked more. The winning books advance until there is a champion.
