Memorial Day Service

April 26, 2024 By Eastwick Press

A traditional Memorial Day service will be held Saturday, May 25th, at 10 am, at the Valley Falls Free Library, 42 State St. The program includes an American flag raising, special music, wreath laying, and Taps. Limited seating is available; please bring your own lawn chair. The service is free and open to all, rain or shine. For more information, please contact Lynn Keyes at 518-222-8650.

Woman’s Club Bake Sale

On Saturday, May 11th, from 9 am to 3 pm, the Lebanon Valley Woman’s Club will be having a bake sale in front of the Family Dollar, 500 State Route 20. The time will be from 9 am to 3 pm or until sold out. There will be a delicious assortment of homemade baked goods such as Mother’s Day cakes, cookies, breads, pies, brownies, and many other items. The proceeds will go to the Lore Squier Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship and the awards will go to New Lebanon High School students. We also support many other local charities.

Vicki L. Guilbeault – Obituary

Stephentown – Vicki L. Guilbeault, 63, passed away on April 5th, 2024 as the result of a heart attack. Vicki was a great wife, mother, and doting grandmother.

She loved her community and when not with family, spent her time volunteering or working at the Stephentown Town Library, where she loved to meet new people and catch up with neighbors. Prior to the library, Vicki worked and retired from the NYS Department of Taxation & Finance.

Geralyn M. Schmidt – Obituary

Troy – Geralyn M. Schmidt, 65, of 114th St. passed away on Sunday February 25th, 2024 at Albany Medical Center after a short illness.

Born in Pittsfield, MA, on November 1st, 1958. Geralyn was the daughter of the late Freddie and Loretta Beuhler Schmidt, who owned and operated the Wayside Inn in West Lebanon for many years.

Raised in West Lebanon, Geralyn was a graduate of New Lebanon High School. She worked for many years as a nurse’s aide and a home health aide before becoming an assistant manager of both Cumberland Farms in Castleton, and then the Hess station in New Lebanon.

Geralyn greatly loved animals and had many throughout her lifetime. Extra special places in her heart were her horse Kissle, dogs Penny and Cole, and her rooster BamBam.

Geralyn was predeceased by her loving companion James Montamerano.

Geralyn was a very loving, caring and generous person. She would give you the shirt off her back even if she didn’t have another one for herself. Her friendly smile and sweet disposition will be missed by all. [Read more…] about Geralyn M. Schmidt – Obituary

Alvin F. Berry – Obituary

Alvin F. Berry of Leesburg, FL passed away on April 10th, 2024 at Opis Ruleme Center in Eustis, FL. Alvin was born at home in Ephratah, NY on April 22nd, 1932 to Harold and Mary (Morrison) Berry. Al was an avid baseball player. As a high school senior in 1949 at Berlin Central High School in Berlin, NY, he threw the first no hitter game in Berlin’s history. Alvin married Gayle Croxson on April 19th, 1953. Alvin served in the US Navy from 1951-1955 and worked on a special Navy project tracking hurricanes which required him and Gayle to move to Jacksonville, FL. In 1954, they welcomed David their first child. They moved back to NY in 1955. They lived in Stephentown, NY and after a few years moved back to Berlin, NY. Al started his career at General Electric plastics division in Pittsfield, MA where he was awarded a patent for plastic processing. Al and Gayle had three more children: Kevin, Glenn, and Brenda. Alvin and Gayle were active members in the Stephentown Baptist Church.

After Gayle’s passing, Alvin met and married Maureen Panagos in April 2002. They lived in Stephentown, NY and later relocated to Leesburg, FL for the warm weather Al enjoyed so much. Neil E. Krebs – Obituary

Stephentown – Neil Ernest Krebs of Stephentown, NY passed away at the age of 90 on April 9th, 2024 in North Greenbush, NY. Neil was born on October 20th, 1933 in New York City to the late Harry and Ruth Krebs.

Neil’s skill in mathematics led to him getting a bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD in engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. After getting his master’s degree, he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a company commander of an engineering unit in South Korea in 1957 and 1958.

After returning home, Neil went on to a long career in both civil and mechanical engineering, working for the New York State Dept. of Transportation, General Electric, Sikorsky Aircraft, and Kaman Aerospace. Neil married Isabel Cogan in 1970 and they [Read more…] about Neil E. Krebs – Obituary

Frederick Knuetter Sr. – Obituary

Berlin – “Fred” Knuetter, Sr. also known in his younger days by his friends as “KingFish,” passed away at the age of 86 on April 8th, 2024. He was born in Berlin, NY on June 15th, 1937 to Harriet and William Knuetter, Sr.

Fred lived his entire life in Berlin, NY; he loved to meet people and learn about their lives. He enjoyed the company and conversation with many friends that he would drop by and visit with. In the last couple of years, Fred appreciated the friends that would stop by to see him at home as well. Fred worked for the State of New York, retiring from the Construction Trade, and then worked various other jobs after retiring from the State of New York. He also processed and sold firewood locally and always had to be working. HVCC Becomes Part of UNESCO-UNEVOC

Congratulations to Hudson Valley Community College on becoming the first community college in the United States to become part of the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for TVET. The UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for TVET includes 231 educational centers located in 150 countries across the globe. The program includes knowledge exchange, shared resources, peer learning, international collaboration, shared research, and combined resources to strengthen and support education.

Baby Cafe Grand Opening

On Wednesday, April 10th, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) held a special grand opening celebration of its Baby Café, a program offered for new parents through SVMC’s Women’s and Children’s Services (WCS). The Baby Café is a free, drop-in, informal breastfeeding support group offering ongoing professional lactation care and intervention.
