Preparing for the Holiday Season

September 28, 2022 By Eastwick Press

The Hoosick Area Church Association (HACA) food pantry is stocking up needed supplies to assist over 200 families with food boxes for each of the holidays. With Thanksgiving and Christmas nearing, this is the time of year when the generosity of the community is vital.

This year, with inflation driving up food prices and supply issues leaving some shelves empty, the price of food is increasing and the availability is decreasing. The USDA supplies are smaller than they have been in past years as well.

Petersburgh Town Board Highlights

September 28, 2022 By Eastwick Press

by Denise Wright
The September 19 meeting of the Petersburgh Town Board focused on improving some of the Town's municipal issues but also stressing some upcoming projects.

The meeting began with two presentations. Starry Ridge Farm gave an overview of the third annual Harvest Festival they sponsored on September 24 at the Petersburgh Library. Assessor Craig Surprise gave the second presentation about the potential for a Town reassessment. He thought getting an audit by a third party about the two-year re-evaluation process was where the Town needed to begin.

Annual Walter A. Wood Tractor Show

September 22, 2022 By Eastwick Press

The Walter A. Wood Tractor and Agriculture Show is coming Saturday, October 1st. Come on over to Walter A. Wood Memorial Park in Hoosick Falls and check out all the antique and vintage tractors, horse-drawn farm equipment and implements, and contemporary machinery that will be on display from 9 am to 4 pm.

The Walter A. Wood Reaping and Mowing Company manufactured horse-drawn farm equipment right here in our village from 1865 to 1924, and sold machinery to farmers in Hoosick and as far away as the Middle East and Russia! The company was a big deal…world famous! It was Wood’s company that made Hoosick Falls a boomtown in the 19th century-—so big that it made us the largest village in the United States.

Come get a good, close-up look at antique tractors and antique horse-drawn implements made by the Wood Company and others, as well as hit-and-miss steam engines, some of which will actually be working. [Read more…] about Annual Walter A. Wood Tractor Show

Brunswick’s Sidewalk to Nowhere

September 22, 2022 By Eastwick Press

by Doug La Rocque
Prior to the Thursday, September 15 Brunswick Planning Board meeting, a public hearing was held on Paulsen Development’s plan to build a two-story medical building at 112 McChesney Avenue (adjacent to the side entrance to Market 32).

The two main points raised at the hearing where the size of the complex and pedestrian traffic. Ortho NY is the proposed tenant, and one speaker asked if the Brunswick complex would rival the Ortho NY facility on Everett Road in Colonie. The answer was no—in fact it would only be about one fifth of the size. The second issue is whether there would be a sidewalk in front of the building. The developer stated they were not opposed to a sidewalk, but asked if other portions of the road would have sidewalks installed as well. They contest a sidewalk just in front of their building, with no connections on either end, would really be a sidewalk to nowhere and were opposed to such. The also asked if such a sidewalk would actually be on private land, which could make them liable for any injuries. If so, they were again in opposition.

East Nassau Board of Trustees Highlights

September 22, 2022 By Eastwick Press

by Denise Wright
The September 14 meeting of the East Nassau Board of Trustees ran a little long this month to make up for not having a meeting during August.

The meeting began with a continuation of the public hearing on a Laier Minor Subdivision. The application is for a 2-lot subdivision of approximately 16.36 acres. One lot will be 5.06 acres, and the other will be around 11.30 acres. According to the surveyor, there is no construction on either lot, and the stream will be the boundary. There was some discussion about if the property was in a flood plain, but it ultimately was decided that this was a straightforward subdivision. The Board approved being a lead agency of this unlisted action after reviewing the SEQRA process.
