Fall Events at the Louis Miller Museum

September 20, 2022 By Eastwick Press

The Hoosick Township Historical Society invites everyone Sunday, September 25, from 1 to 4 pm to an afternoon gathering celebrating Emmajane Cottrell. Emmajane, a lifelong resident of the area, turned 100 in July! Come celebrate with her and enjoy a show featuring paintings she has done over the last century. This event will be held on the lawn. Refreshments will be available.

Thursday, September 29, at 6 pm, Katie Brownell will present on Sarah Rudd, a Bennington woman, mother, and wife of militiaman Joseph Rudd. This is the story of a woman who put the safety of her children over her own comfort in a time of war and hardship. It is also a story of agency, decisiveness, survival, and motherhood bound up in the history of the Battle of Bennington.

All the programs will be held at the Louis Miller Museum, 166 Main Street, Hoosick Falls. For questions or more information, you can contact the museum at staff@hoosickhistory.com or 518-686-4682.

Woods Brook Buyout Issues Continue

September 20, 2022 By Eastwick Press

by Doug La Rocque
Since what has been described as the 100-year storm occurred on July 1, 2017, the Woods Brook and in particular where it passes through the Village has been in front of the Hoosick Falls Board of Trustees nearly every meeting since. The Trustees’ Tuesday, September 13 meeting was no exception.

The vast majority of the clean-up work is done and the Village voted earlier this year to erect fencing for both safety and aesthetic concerns. Along Hall Street that is complete, but at 107/115 Main Street, not so much. The NYS grant that pays for the Woods Brook clean-up was set to expire soon, but has been extended with a requirement for more information concerning the fencing. Audio Comes to the Bennington Battlefield

August 18, 2022 By Eastwick Press

In its latest initiative to enhance the visitor experience, the Friends of the Bennington Battlefield have added an audio dimension to the ten signage panels placed on the Battlefield two years ago.

Each signage panel now bears one or more audio-connected QR codes. Point your smartphone camera at the code, tap the link that appears on your screen, and an audio file will play. You will hear a short musical prelude under a concise spoken introduction, then an actor’s voice speaking words from history, including accounts from inside the Battle, keyed to panels located at the scene of the action described. The narrations are between 30 seconds and two minutes long.
