Petersburgh PFOA Meeting

Stephen Schwarz of the firm Faraci Lange spoke at an informational meeting in Petersburgh on Monday evening about the class action lawsuit against Taconic for compensation for PFOA contamination. Taconic has agreed to pay a total of $23.5 million in compensation. Those who are eligible include homeowners of houses in the Water District or houses whose wells have PFOA contamination in the water, and residents of houses with contaminated wells, whether they are owners or renters. Two More Wells in Poestenkill Test Positive For Higher than Permitted Levels of PFOA

This brings it to four, the number of private wells found to have been contaminated along with the Algonquin Middle School. No source of the contamination has been determined yet and more testing is underway. Read the complete story here.

The Town of Hoosick will Seek a Moratorium on Marijuana Sales Instead of Simply Opting Out

The Town Board wants more guidance from New York State and wishes to establish where such dispensaries may be located by adopting changes to the town zoning code. The Board plans to officially opt out of any on site consumption.

New Brunswick Budget Holds The Line on Taxes

Presented to the Town Board at their Thursday evening meeting, Supervisor Phil Herrington’s budget proposal calls for no change in the tax rate. Spending in the budget is up, but so are revenues, which allowed for the 0% tax change.

New Rensco Budget Calls for 10% Tax Cut

Delivered to the Rensselaer County Legislature on Thursday, the budget maintains the level of county services and is the fourth consecutive year County Executive Steve McLaughlin has proposed budgets that cut taxes. Read the complete story here.

Petersburgh PFOA Meeting Changed

The lead attorney in the PFOA Class Action suit settlement will meet with the public at 6 pm on Monday, October 18 at the PVMCC.

Two More Wells Found To Have PFOA Contamination

The Rensselaer County Department of Health reports two more wells located to the south and southeast of the Algonquin Middle School in Poestenkill, have tested positive for PFOA contamination above the state-permitted level of 10 parts per trillion.

Settlement in Petersburgh PFOA Suit

Brunswick Hannaford is Approved

At a joint meeting of the Brunswick Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals on Thursday evening, September 23, final approval for the construction of a Hannaford Supermarket at the corner of Lord Avenue and Hoosick Road (NYS Route 7) was granted. The store is expected to open sometime in the spring, once NYS DOT installs a new traffic light at that intersection. The complete report will appear in the October 1 edition of The Eastwick Press.

High School Volleyball • Berlin/New Lebanon Defeats Cambridge

A great team win from BNL varsity volleyball! The girls played as a team, moving around the court and defeating Cambridge in 3 sets. The girls kept serving up aces with 5 from Macayla Roberts and 3 from both Bailey Catlin and Ciera Jaegar. Alexis Rifenburg, Riley Smith, Acsha Bray and Jayelyn Goodermote all contributed with 1 ace a piece. Action did not stop there with 3 kills from Bailey Catlin and 2 from Ciara Jaegar, Riley Smith and Macayla Roberts. Acsha Bray and Sage Rogers continued on offense with 1 kill apiece. Defense also earned 28 digs. Keep it up girls.
