Youth to Youth Berlin has coordinated what it hopes to be several Teen Nights at the Bridgeway Ballroom in Cherry Plain. It is meant to not only be a night of safe, drug-free fun inspired by the Youth to Youth Conference but the first of monthly Teen Nights locally to provide kids with fun safe drug-free entertainment.

Letter To The Editor – A Waste Of Taxpayers Dollars: Bus Routes
To the editor:
This letter is to inform the taxpayers of the BCD of the waste of the taxpayers dollars.
My children ride a small [school] bus – this bus goes on Stillman Village [Road] then proceeds to Varville, then (here is where the waste happens) drives a half of an hour to pick up two other students on the trail and off of the trail when another bus drives this same route. At Special Meeting BCSD Board Votes To Accept Barter Proposals For Empty Buildings

The Berlin School District has decided to seek specific proposals from the Grafton Fire District and the Stephentown Town Board for taking over ownership of the closed elementary school properties in those towns. School Board President Gina Goodermote, having failed to get approval two weeks ago to hold a referendum in March on this issue, came back to the Board at a special meeting on January 31 with a new resolution. It calls for the Board to request the Grafton Fire District and the Town of Stephentown to submit “barter” proposals by March 6. Mountaineers Split Games With Heatly, Waterford

This past week the Berlin boys basketball team split games with Heatly and Waterford in Central Hudson Valley League action. First, against Heatly, the Mountaineers came out charging, taking a 21-4 lead in the first quarter, one of their strongest individual quarters of the entire season.
The Mountaineers held off a charge by the Hornets in the second and third quarters, holding the lead the entire time. In the end, led by three players in double digits, Berlin won 58-42. Seth Hawk scored 15 points, Cullen O’Brien had 14 and Tyler Bacon had 13 points.

Berlin CSD Annual Winter Clothing/Coat Drive
The Berlin Central School District Forum on Winter is once more sponsoring the yearly Winter Clothing/Coat Drive on Friday, February 3, from 2 to 4 pm in the Berlin Middle/High School Cafeteria. Previously known as the “Clothing Swap,” this year’s Clothing/Coat Drive will continue the tradition of giving families access to new or gently worn clothing. BCS Plan To Give Away School Buildings Is Tabled

A vote by the Berlin School Board on whether to offer its vacant elementary schools to the Town of Stephentown and to the Grafton Fire District failed to pass Wednesday at the monthly School Board meeting in Cherry Plain.
Board President Gina Goodermote has been leading the charge to rid the District of Stephentown Elementary and Grafton Elementary as a means of saving the thousands of dollars every year which is currently spent to keep the buildings mothballed. Berlin Central School District 2012-2013 Kindergarten Registration
The Berlin Central School District has begun the process of registering kindergarten students for the 2012-2013 school year. If you have a child who will be five years of age on or before December 1, 2012, please call 658-2127 from January 23 through February 17 between the hours of 8:45 am and 3 pm to make sure your child is listed on our kindergarten register. This will ensure that you will receive the kindergarten registration packet by mail. All registration paperwork including a copy of your child’s birth or baptismal certificate and proof of residency must be hand delivered to Berlin Elementary School by March 30, 2012. Drop off times are between 8:30 am and 3:45 pm, Monday through Friday.
Mountaineers Boys Basketball Splits Games

The Berlin boys basketball team split its games this week, winning at Mt. Everett and falling to Hawthorne Valley at home. The win over Mt. Everett is their second victory over the Massachusetts school this season.
