Mountaineer Boys Basketball Round Up

New Lebanon/Berlin Girls Swim Team Edged Out By Taconic

In an exciting meet on Wednesday, January 8, in New Lebanon Taconic High School of Pittsfield edged out the NL/B girls by 6, 50 to 44; it came down to the last race. Taconic’s Gillian Campbell hit a Massachusetts state qualifying time in the 50 free with a 26.91 and anchored the 400 relay that took first and the win. New Lebanon/Berlin’s Amanda Despart hit a NYS sectional time in the 50 Free (29.58) and the 100 Free (1:07.11).

On the boys side, New Lebanon/Berlin’s Evan Burgess hit a NYS sectional time in the 50 free (25.22) and the 100 Free (58.89).

The two teams go at it again on Friday, January 10, at Taconic’s pool at the Pittsfield YMCA.

BCS Board Discusses New Bus Garage

Berlin Varsity Boys Basketball Beats Waterford 51-27

The Berlin boy’s Varsity basketball team will go into the two week winter break with a CHVL record of 2-1 after beating 2-2 Waterford 51-27.  After getting a week off from games because of weather, Berlin was ready to get back at it.  Fans from past years have been witness to a rough and tumble rivalry  between the two teams, but Waterford wasn’t up for it this time, and Berlin jumped out to a strong 17-7  first quarter lead.

Autographed Pictures To Be Sold At Shop On The Avenue To Create A BCS Scholarship

Mr. Robert C. Miller, retired seventh grade English teacher, did an annual project with his students for many years. Students would write letters to famous people telling them about the project and requesting an autographed photo. The purpose of the project was to teach students how to write letters. Hundreds of letters were written over the years, and, as a result, by the time Mr. Miller retired there were over 300 pictures, autographed magazines and letters adorning the walls of his classroom. Mountaineers’ Boys Basketball Dispatches Hawthorne Valley

Berlin varsity boys basketball started a three game road trip with a strong showing against Hawthorne Valley. The starting five ripped off a very quick 30 points for a 30-4 first quarter lead. A combination of starters and bench players kept up the pace in the second quarter going into the locker room with the score at 59-10. Class Of 2014 Pizza Night And Shop On The Avenue

On Friday, December 13, the Berlin HS Class of 2014 will be holding its next Pizza Night fundraiser, and we are combining it with Shop on the Avenue. We are still looking for local crafters and vendors to register for spaces. The cost of each space is $10 and the money will be donated to the high school Student Council Operation Support Our Troops. Shop on the Avenue is from 5 to 8 pm. If you are interested in reserving a space, please contact Karen Day at the high school at 658-2515 or by email, kday@berlincentral.org.

As for Pizza Night, you can order hot, fresh pizzas by emailing Karen Day up to 2:30 Friday afternoon and then by phone at 658-2515 ext. 209. Pizzas cost $8 and toppings cost $1 each. Toppings include pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon, mushrooms, black olives, peppers, onions, pineapple, broccoli and jalapeños. Pizzas are available from 4 to 7 pm.
