Daughters Of The American Revolution Good Citizen
Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a lineage society that is a non-profit organization dedicated to patriotism, historic preservation and education. The procedure for selecting a DAR Good Citizen is for the school faculty and students to select one senior who has demonstrated, to an outstanding degree, the qualities of a good citizen: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
Only one student per year may be honored as a school’s DAR Good Citizen. This student is then eligible, if he or she wishes, to
enter the DAR Good Citizens scholarship contest. Cullen O’Brien, son of Dan and Doris O’Brien of Grafton has been selected by the Berlin High School faculty and senior class as the DAR Good Citizen.
VFW Voice Of Democracy Essay Contest
Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ premier scholarship program. Each year, more than 50,000 high school students compete for more than $2.3 million in scholarships and incentives. Students compete by writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme. This year’s theme is – Why I’m Optimistic About our Nation’s Future. Rebecca Olson, daughter of Ellen and Matthew Olson of Berlin, was selected as the winner of the Berlin High School Voice of Democracy Essay Contest.
