A January 23 Columbia County Sheriff’s raid on a drinking party at the New Lebanon residence of New Lebanon Town Supervisor Mike Benson on County Route 5 resulted in the arrest of 28 teens.
Twenty-seven teens were cited by Sheriff’s Deputies Hofstetter and Madison for underage drinking. Another teen was cited for possessing marijuana. All of the teens cited were from counties other than Columbia County except one.

Letter To The Editor – Cruel And Contemptible Words
To the Editor,
I am appalled that New Lebanon Town Supervisor Michael Benson would listen to, agree and act upon the crude, cruel and contemptible words, “no show” of a scoundrel, charged against Anita Crosby – the now-dismissed bookkeeper for the Town of New Lebanon. Obviously, those looking to destroy her just saw that she wasn’t there when they were and jumped to their totally unwarranted, sneaky, cowardly conclusion. It was enough to fuel the fire already burning for her dismissal.

New Lebanon Library To Screen Project Nim
The New Lebanon Library will present the riveting documentary Project Nim on Friday, February 17, at 6:30 pm at the Library. The film will be followed by discussion and Q&A with Elizabeth Hess, author of the book Nim Chimpsky: The Chimp Who Would Be Human.
The film is an eye opening account of Nim, the chimpanzee who became the focus of a landmark 1970s experiment to show that an ape could learn to communicate with language if raised and nurtured like a human child. Stephentown ZBA Finds Significant Environmental Impact In Motocross Park Project

The Stephentown Zoning Board of Appeals has determined that there would be significant environmental impact in allowing Howard Commander’s proposed Motocross park to be placed in a residential zone off of Webster Hill Road. At a special meeting on Tuesday, the ZBA, following the SEQR (State Environmental Quality Review) process went step by step through Part 2 of the Environmental Assessment Form. Following recommendations from engineering consultant Michael Bianchino of Clough Harbour Associates, the Board determined that there would be significant and important impact in noise and on the growth and character of the neighborhood.
