The New Lebanon Library will present the riveting documentary Project Nim on Friday, February 17, at 6:30 pm at the Library. The film will be followed by discussion and Q&A with Elizabeth Hess, author of the book Nim Chimpsky: The Chimp Who Would Be Human.
The film is an eye opening account of Nim, the chimpanzee who became the focus of a landmark 1970s experiment to show that an ape could learn to communicate with language if raised and nurtured like a human child. Problems arose when Nim’s natural instincts took over and the humans trusted with his well being failed to protect him. The film chronicles the extraordinary journey of one animal thrust into human society.
This program is free and open to the public. The New Lebanon Library is located at 550 State Route 20, ¼ mile north of the yellow blinking light at the intersection of Routes 20/22.
