East Nassau – Catherine L. “Kay” Shuhart Mabeus, 74, of Hanky Mull Hill Road, East Nassau, NY, died on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Albany Memorial Hospital after a valiant and courageous fight against cancer under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County. Her husband Robert J. “Bob” Mabeus, Sr., 75, died suddenly at home on Saturday a short time later.

Stephentown ZBA Closer To Decision On Motocross Park

The Stephentown Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) has been deliberating on Howard Commander’s proposal for a Motocross park in the south end of town since May of 2010. The regular meetings on this topic usually draw a sizable crowd from both the pro and the con side and the meeting on Tuesday of this week was no exception. It may be, however, that the ZBA is now actually approaching decision time. With the public comment period for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement concluding on Tuesday, the project now moves to the final EIS stage.

New Lebanon Town Board Action – Town Board Meeting Moved To Town Hall

New Lebanon finally has a new Town Hall. After years of deliberations, arguments, committees, plans, studies, searches and discussions the Town Hall was relocated to the Town Hall. The modest addition to the existing building, along with many improvements to the old structure, hosted its first Town Board meeting Tuesday night.
“The project is substantially complete,” said Town Supervisor Mike Benson. “I want to thank everyone that was involved.”

Post Office Hours In Berlin, Grafton and Cherry Plain To Be Cut Back – But Not Right Away

As reported in this paper last week, the Petersburgh Post Office, as part of a cost-cutting review of local post offices will have its window hours cut by 15 minutes. This is not a very big change for Petersburgh customers, but what about other post offices in the area?

A Community Holiday Celebration At The New Lebanon Library
The New Lebanon Library will host a fun filled community holiday celebration on Friday, December 21, from 6 to 8 pm at the Library. The celebration will include music, pot luck, caroling, crafts for kids, tree lighting and a visit from Santa. Participants are encouraged to bring treats or a covered dish to share.

The Lebanon Valley Speedway is attempting to overturn zoning laws for the motocross track.
Think the racetrack is noisy now? Plans are underway for a 6 am start on Sundays with roaring motors and all day races until 9 pm. A group of concerned citizens within a 5 mile radius is working to stop this zoning change covering the towns of New Lebanon and Stephentown. Lebanon Valley Farmers Market Annual Holiday Market
Lebanon Valley Farmers Market will host its annual Holiday Market on Sunday, December 9, from 10 am to 2 pm. Look for us inside at the Midtown Mall on Rtes. 20/22 ¼ mile north of the yellow blinking light at the intersection of Routes 20/22 in New Lebanon.
The market will have an array of produce, meats, baked goods, eggs, jams and jellies and will feature the crafts of local artisans – jewelry, beeswax candles, soap, silk scarves, wooden birdhouses and more. Live music will be performed by Divinitress and The Peters Brothers. Santa will make a special appearance at 12:30 pm.
