Parking an Issue on Elm Street

This is not the first time the Hoosick Falls Board of Trustees has dealt with parking problems on Elm Street in the vicinity of First Street and Railroad Avenue. In 2018, they passed a Local Law placing a two hour limit on parking. It has not been particularly enforced, as there are two apartment buildings on the street whose tenants have been used to parking on the street each night. Dolley Madison Visits Wood Park in Hoosick Falls

On a recent Sunday afternoon residents, family and friends of Wood Park enjoyed a visit with Dolley Madison, the charming wife of President James Madison. Dressed in a beautiful red velvet empire style dress with matching turban, historic interpreter Phyllis Chapman, along with visuals coordinator and husband Michael Chapman, enchanted folks with tales of the life of this very special lady. Dolley told her audience she was raised a Quaker, a life too plain for her. She was widowed at a young age and left with a young son

Sewers, Chromebooks and Horses Discussed by Hoosick Falls Central School Board

The Hoosick Falls School Board met for their regular monthly meeting on Thursday October 21, the day the building reopened after a sewer line problem had closed the building to students for two days. The Hoosick Township Historical Society took a bus trip to the United States Military Academy at West Point on Saturday, April 27, where fifty Historical Society members, their families, and friends were treated to an in-depth tour of the historic and world-renowned military institution.

DEC Ruling Complicates Sewer Project

At a meeting last week between all parties involved with the sewer project at Superior, Lyman and Water Streets in the village, The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) informed Mayor Rob Allen, that any groundwater that is exposed due to the construction, must be considered as contaminated water, and properly treated, before it can be disposed off. The same applies to any soil saturated with groundwater.
