Sisters Brittany and Rachel Pine will compete this Saturday, July 22, in what is billed as the “Highest Road Marathon On Planet Earth.” Part of the Greater Yellowstone Adventure Series, the Madison Marathon, held in Ennis, Montana, begins at an elevation of 9,250 feet above sea level. No point of the race goes below 8,500 feet, with the average being over 9,000 feet.
Due to U.S. Forest Service regulations of the pristine area, the race is limited to 200 participants. The sisters have been training since earlier this year to prepare for the lower oxygen content in the high elevations.
