The summer music season in Wood Park in Hoosick Falls will begin on Wednesday, June 28, at 7:30 pm. [Private]What has become a regular opening of the season will be a concert by the Stardusters; a “big band” playing music of all periods. The eighteen piece group was formed by Cortland Cottrell in the mid seventies, is managed by his son Bill and conducted by Bill Gaillard. This group has performed at wedding receptions, the “Center” and offers a Christmas Concert at the First United Church in Hoosick Falls. On June 28, Kristina “Krissy” Fauler, well known vocalist, will offer her wonderful voice to many selections.
The Hoosick Falls Community band will begin its eight concert series in Wood Park on Wednesday, July 5 at 7:30 pm. As with the past couple of seasons in the event of rain the concert will be held in the skating rink. In that event folks should bring chairs or blankets. While the rink would seem unusual sound wise it was found in 2010 to be quite acceptable for a concert. A community program called, “Thanks Again Brad Cole” was held there in 2010.
There will be four concerts in July and four in August by the Community Band that had its origins in 1873 as the temple of Honor band, and The VanSurdam Band under the leadership of Henderson S. VanSurdam.
The public is invited to these free band concerts sponsored by The Village of Hoosick Falls, The Town of Hoosick, Hoosick Falls Credit Union and the Estates of Harry Weir and the Rev. Edith Craig Reynolds.
Concerts feature selection from Broadway Shows, Popular tunes and the marches of King and Sousa. The band is comprised of many local musicians and rehearses through the year in preparation for the summer seasons. [/Private]
