A Public Hearing was held on Monday, June 5 on Steve Shaw’s application to display wooden storage sheds and carports on the lawn and parking lot in front of the former Carmody Ford property on Route 7.[private] There were no comments. The regular Hoosick Zoning Board meeting followed the Public Hearing. The Board went through the SEQR form to identify possible environmental impacts from Shaw’s enterprise, and finding no significant impacts, it passed a negative declaration on environmental impacts. The application was approved unanimously with four conditions: that a maximum of 30 sheds be displayed; that signs be on the sheds only; that the metal carports be anchored so the wind can’t pick them up, and that no additional lighting be installed. Shaw has already put several sheds on display, and will be adding more as he develops the business further.
The Zoning Board next took up a request from Peter Hewson for a variance on the side setback for his garage at 22022 NY 22 in North Hoosick. Hewson said he wants to build a two car garage where he now has a one-car garage. His lot is .8 acre. The current garage is 16’ from the property line, the required setback is 20’ from the property line, and he is seeking a variance to allow his new building to be 10’ from the property line. The existing garage is 14’ by 20’, and the garage he wants to build would be 20’ x 36’. The edge of the new garage would be 6’ closer to the property line than the current one is. Hewson said the other side of the property line in question is occupied by the parking lot of the Cornerstone Fellowship Church. He presented a letter from the Church stating that they had no objection to Hewson’s plans.
The Board set a public hearing on the matter for Monday July 3 at 7 pm, and asked Hewson to send letters to all of the abutters to let them know about his request and the public hearing on it. [/private]
