At the March annual meeting, the Hoosick Township Historical Society announced Joyce Brewer as their new Director. [private]The search began back in March 2016 with the Executive Board writing an updated job description and inititating a search for a new Director.
Executive Board members include Diana Cottrell, Diane Davendonis, Charles Filkins, Susan Hoffman, Phil Leonard, and Sharon and Bob Niles. Two people were interviewed for the position, but they did not work out and no one was hired at that time.
Brewer was initially hired in July 2016 as the financial administrator of the Louis Miller Museum. After working in that capacity for a little over half a year, she was approached in February of this year by Filkins and Leonard who asked her to become the Director; she accepted and was voted in by the Board.
Brewer is a native of Hoosick Falls. She grew up in Southwest Hoosick on her parents’ dairy farm. She is a graduate of Hoosick Falls Central School and holds degrees in Culinary Arts and Hotel Management from Schenectady County Community College. She is happily married to Todd E. Brewer and they have two daughters, Samantha and Anna. She is an active and faithful community member serving as President of The Hoosick Area Church Association. As president for the past three years, she works closely with Executive Director Diane Hosterman with finding fundraising opportunities. She is also the Chair of the Baccalaureate.
The Hoosick Township Historical Society will host a talk on Thursday, May 18 at 7 pm on Mary Rogers.Vince Savage, who is the great nephew of Mary will speak. He has a Facebook page titled “A Girl Named Mary.” [/private]
