The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department welcomed two new firefighters at their meeting on March 8. An Active Member certificate was awarded to Tyler Joyner. The other new member, Kyle Burdick, was unable to attend the meeting and will receive his certificate later.

Tyler Joyner was a Junior Member of the Department. Full membership requires completion of a course taught by the State Office of Fire Prevention and Control in either Firefighter I, Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Vehicle Operation, or Fire Police. Tyler successfully completed the Fire Police course. This makes him a productive team member on the emergency scene.
Tyler is the son of Julie and Gary Joyner who are respectively EMT Lieutenant and Firefighter in the Department. Fire District Director Bob Adler commented that, “In these days when most people are too busy to volunteer, it’s gratifying to see the generations working together for the good of the community.”
Adler added that, “All valley fire departments are looking for more volunteers, whether high school students or retirees or anyone in between. A larger pool of trained members ensures a fast emergency response. Consider joining. We’re easy to find.”[/private]
