Thursday: I rode down to Mr. Allen Adams after Nathan Howard to go with me and take the affidavits of some old revolution men. I had to wait there to said Adams until said Howard wrote a lease for said Adams. From there I took said N. Howard into my cutter and carried him home and I took dinner with him and then I carried him to old Mr. Whitman’s to see if we could find out anything concerning my father being in the service, but old Mr. Whitman knew nothing about my father being in the army. We then rode to old Mr. Jesse Bennet’s, and Squ Howard took said Bennet’s affidavit concerning being in the service 7½ months with my father as drustece(?) men, and then I fetched said Howard home with me and he took my Mother’s declaration down in writing concerning drawing a pension and this evening I carried said Howard home. Tonight old Mr. N. Warren stayed with us.
Friday: Today I took the before-mentioned Nathaniel Warren into my cutter and carried him home again to Berlin. On the way we stopped to Randal A Brown’s store to warm. I paid 29 cts for a halter and two cts for a ball liquerish, and we stopped to Mr. John Rose’s to warm and we stopped to Mrs. Culver’s tavern and I paid six cts for each a drink brandy, and then we went Straeter’s tavern and I paid 12 cts for liquor and three cts for crackers and there I left old Mr. Warren and I returned home. I only stopped to H. Platt’s store to warm coming home.
Sunday: Today I took the cutter and rode to the old Widow King’s, the widow of Moses King, to inquire if she knew anything about the priest by the name of Crosby in the year of 1777. She told me that she had not any recollection of him.
Monday: Today I took the cutter and rode to Canaan and my wife with me. We went to old Widow Crosby’s to inquire after the priest Crosby that preached at New Lebanon in the year 1777, but the old widow knew nothing where he was. I wanted to know my Mother’s marriage to petition to Congress for a pension. From there we went to Calvin Carr’s and took dinner. We got home before sunset and this evening I rode up to squ Nathan Howard’s to inquire when the papers would be ready for me to carry my Mother to Troy to give in her declaration to get the the pension. Said Howard told me we might come on tomorrow and take the writings to go to Troy.[/private]
