Featuring Music Of The 1920s By Tune Travelers
submitted by Ingrid Schaaphok
On Saturday, March 1, from 7 to 9 pm, travel back in time to the era of flappers and prohibition and the birth of jazz. Join Tune Travelers as they transform the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center into a 1920’s speakeasy. Come hear the music that made the Roaring Twenties roar!
Tune Travelers is a band of friends who have been playing and performing together for years. Most recently they performed “The Jazz Age: Music of the 1920s” for HAYC3’s “Music in Hoosic” Program at the Armory. Sharing their love for the classic jazz, blues and show tunes of the 20th century, they take their audiences on toe-tapping tours of the Great American Songbook. The group is dedicated to interpreting these timeless standards for local audiences, creating intimate programs that evoke specific eras, connecting listeners to our rich musical heritage and encouraging the tradition of live music.
Join vocalists Len Cave, Lindsay Cave, Andrew Hanerfeld, Liz Hill and Ingrid Schaaphok along with Dottie Cross on keyboard, Mike Chapman on drums and Bill Cottrell on horns as they bring to life the era that was named for its music, “The Jazz Age.”
Celebrate Mardi Gras and help support the Petersburgh Youth Program. Try the dances, sing along to classic tunes and enjoy some delicious refreshments. Era costumes from the 1920’s are welcome but not required. There will be prizes and a raffle.
A suggested donation of $10 to $20 includes wine, beer and light refreshments. Tickets are available in advance at PVMCC or by calling 518-658-0597; a free raffle ticket is included with advance purchase. Tickets are also available at the door.
PVMCC is located at 71 Main Street in Petersburgh. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Petersburgh Youth Program.
