The Hoosick Falls wrestling team secured their second straight WASAREN League title with wins over Schuylerville on Thursday, January 10, and Tamarac on Thursday, January 17. This is the team’s third title in the past six seasons.
In their home meet against Schuylerville, the Panthers racked up seven of their nine wins by pin. Garrett Wright, Billy Pine, Brad Burns, Luis Weierbach, Tom Peabody, Tyler Randall and Colby Davendonis all picked up pins. Mike Matatt won his match 8-2. And in the final match of the night, Bryan Sherman
seemed to torture his opponent with takedowns en route to a 23-6 win by tech fall. Sherman had six takedowns in the match. The team won 56-18.
The team defeated Tamarac at home 50-22 to clinch the League title. Hoosick Falls picked up six pins in the match. They came from Wright, Pine, Burns, Weierbach, Randall and Nolan Foster. Also picking up wins for the Panthers were Derek Bird, Colby Davendonis, Mike Matatt and Bryan Sherman. Sherman picked up another tech fall win, 18-1.
Now the Panthers gear up for the post season with the Ken Baker Classic in Cambridge at 9:30 am on Saturday. The following weekend, February 2, will be the Class C Sectionals in Hoosick Falls.
