• Mitten Tree – Bring your gently used or new winter accessories (mittens, gloves, hats, scarves) and hang them on the Mitten Tree at the Stephentown Memorial Library. Collection will run from through December 14. We will donate them to a local agency for distribution to families in need. Children’s items are especially useful.
• Mozart and You Program – Saturday, December 1 at 11:30 am. Join us for an exploration of Mozart’s music with a new and unique twist. Using several of her favorite works by Mozart, cellist Annabelle Hoffman will lead participants on a journey into music. This is an interactive presentation that strives to give participants the tools to listen to and experience for themselves the power and beauty of the music. Annabelle Hoffman is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and currently lives in New York City. As a soloist with the Sinfonietta Salzburg, she has toured throughout Europe and South America and as an orchestral player has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the American Symphony, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra.
• Make Your Own Mini-Gingerbread House – join us on Monday, December 10, at 6:30 pm as we make mini-gingerbread houses from graham crackers. This is a great activity that is suitable for all ages, including very young children. It will be led by Rebekkah Corbett. This is a free activity, but we ask that you call ahead for reservations.
• Family Movie Night – come in from the cold and enjoy a showing of the film “Arthur Christmas” on Friday, December 14, at 6:30 pm. This animated feature at last reveals the incredible, never before seen answer to every child’s question – “So how does Santa deliver all those presents in one night?” The answer is Santa’s exhilarating, ultra high tech operation hidden beneath the North Pole. But at the heart of the film is a story with the ingredients of a Christmas classic – a family in a state of comic dysfunction and an unlikely hero, Arthur, with an urgent mission that must be completed before Christmas morning dawns. Popcorn and juice will be served. This event is free, and all are welcome!
• Holiday Cookie Swap – come join the fun on Thursday, December 20, at 6:30 pm. Hot chocolate and holiday treats will be served, and everyone is encouraged to bring along four dozen holiday cookies for a cookie swap. Everyone gets to take home a nice assortment of cookies for the holidays.
Holiday Closings
The Stephentown Memorial Library will be closed Monday, December 24, and Tuesday, December 25, for Christmas. We will also be closed Monday, December 31, and Tuesday, January 1, for New Year’s. We wish you all a joyous and safe holiday season.
• Family Movie Matinee – are kids climbing the walls after the holiday excitement? Bring them to the Library for a showing of the beloved film “Babe” on Wednesday, December 26, at 2 pm. Based on Dick King-Smith’s beloved children’s novel, “Babe” is the story of an intelligent swine whose talents in sheep herding just might save him from the slaughterhouse. This is an inventive, heartwarming film. Juice and cookies will be served. This event is free, and all are welcome! Parents or caregivers must accompany children under 12.
• Pajama Storytime – wear your pjs and bring your favorite stuffed animal, along with a parent or caregiver. We will listen to some holiday stories, sing a few holiday songs and enjoy hot cocoa and cookies. Join us Thursday, December 27, at 6:30 pm.
• Tween Movie Night – Come join us for a showing of ParaNorman. When a small town comes under siege by zombies, who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman, who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits. Bring your friends and relax with some popcorn on Friday, December 28, at 6:30 pm at the Library.
