Buskirk – Manuel Custodio, 77, passed away on July 31, 2012, at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. He had resided on Youngs Road in Buskirk, NY, with his wife of fifty-two years, Isabel Maria Duartae Custodio.
Born on July 25, 1935, in Sao Miguel Azores, Portugal, Manuel was the son of the late Joao da Ponte and Isabel de Jesus (Cordeiro) Custodio. Manuel moved to the United States thirty-four years ago to make a better way of life for his family, which he accomplished. He was very proud of his children’s accomplishments.
He had been employed at the Ruditis Store in Hoosick Falls, NY. Manuel enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching his beloved Portuguese soccer team, Benfica, making wine and working with his fruit trees. He most enjoyed the time with his family and grandchildren. Manuel was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls.
Survivors, other than his wife Isabel, include his daughter, Maria Paterno of Fort Myers, FL, his son, John Custodio of Whitehall, NY, his granddaughter, Sierra Paterno, and his grandsons, Richard and John Francis Custodio.
A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered on Friday, August 3, at 12 pm from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at Island Hill Cemetery in Buskirk.
Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, on Friday from 10 to 11:30 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Buskirk Fire Department through the funeral home.
