Wednesday, October 23, 1822: This evening I walked to Mr. John Russel’s and Ephraim Pierce’s and to others to know their minds about having the school house drawn to the centre of the district.
Thursday, Oct. 24: Early this morning I walked to Lebanon to E. F. Booge’s Esq. and he drew an article to get signers to call a school meeting. I gave him 25 cents for his trouble, and then I went in to A. Betts Inn with said Booge and he got some bitters. I fetched said article from Booge home and eight freeholders signed it to call a school meeting to have the said school house drawn and I handed it to Mr. John Russel, one of the school committee. Mr. Rensselaer Humphrey came and bought one bushel of sweet apples and he credit the same on book price agreed 12½ cents. He likewise agreed that if I would let him have one hundred pumpkins, he would let me have a new pair of pantaloons that he had on, and agreed to credit me one dollar on book for drawing said pumpkins.
Friday, Oct 25: I drew R. Humphrey a load of 52 pumpkins. This afternoon I gathered apples and tonight we husked corn and lsaac Wylie Humphrey and George Glass helped a spell
Saturday, Oct 26: This forenoon I carried a load of 54 pumpkins to R. Humphrey, which makes out the contract on Tuesday, and I fetched home the pantaloons.
Monday, Oct. 28: Today and tonight we husked corn. Today a very hard blow of wind and some rain. It did some damage of blowing fences and fruit trees.
Tuesday, Oct. 29: We mended fence. Towards night I went to school meeting at the school house to see about moving said school house, but the district could not be agreed, and there was not any meeting called this evening. Mr. John Russell and I walked to Mr. Calvin Sacketts to see if they would move their school house if we would from their district. He agreed to call a school meeting and let us know.
Wednesday, October 30: This evening we, a few from our district, went to the meeting house school district and they agreed to move their school house if we wished and did not get agreed to move our own.
Thursday, Oct 31: I carried John Russel and John Wylie over to Henry Platt’s store. We waited a spell for Nat Howard, one of the school commissioners, and Henry Platt Jnr. We advised them about us being sent to another district if we did not get it agreed our own. I paid 4 cts for brandy and 5 cts for tobacco. We dug potatoes and tonight husked corn.
Monday, November 4: This morning I went to the school house to school meeting to see if we could agree to have the school house moved and the commissioners came but the district could not agree and it is not moved.
