The summer potluck dinner meeting of the Stephentown Historical Society will be Monday, July 9, at 6:30 pm at the Stephentown Heritage Center, Garfield Road (County Route 26), Stephentown. Those attending should bring a hearty appetite and a dish large enough to share, either main dish, salad or dessert. Plates, utensils, and beverages will be provided. The event is free and open to the public. The building is handicapped accessible. For directions, telephone (518) 733-5675. Note that the south end of Garfield-East Nassau Road is closed for bridge repair.
The after-dinner speaker is Norman Frye, from the New York State Bluebird Society, who will give a short illustrated program about our State bird. He is a 17-year member of the Society and monitors nesting boxes along a section of the Route 20 corridor. The volunteers of NYSBS keep track of 3,000 bluebird boxes on the Route 20 Bluebird Trail and record an average of 5,000 bluebird fledglings each year. Come and learn more about this colorful and melodious bird.
