Hoosick Falls – A pioneer of having it all, a mother of five sons and a trailblazer for women in business, Faye Smith Wirmusky died peacefully at home in Hoosick Falls, NY, on May 19, 2012, in the loving care of her sons, family and friends.
Born in 1926 and married in 1946, Faye was proudest of being a great mom while enjoying a rich personal life blending career, travel and a love of beautiful things and interesting people.
She was married for 62 years to retired Army Major Anthony J. (Tony) Wirmusky, deceased in 2009. The greatest heartbreak of her life was the death of her son Stephen in 1993.
Faye is survived by her sister, Linda Smith Spaar, her sister-in-law, Regina Hubbard, her niece, Teresa Brennan, and her sons, A.J., Richard, Frank and Peter and their partners, as well as two grandsons, Anthony III and Joseph.
Faye brought a joyful, inventive approach to motherhood while succeeding at the top of a male dominated industry – advancing from receptionist to National Association Director in ten years.
Faye inspired all who knew her with her stylish integration of family life, career and a vibrant social life in Atlanta, Hawaii, the Netherlands and at Hedges Lake, NY. She was an accomplished bridge player and crossword puzzle-ist and had a deep affinity for the beauty of wild birds.
